I Love Carson City’s Weekend Event Summary: Aug. 18 - 19

We are running out of summer weekends. I know that’s hard to believe right now, but hoodies and everything pumpkin is just beyond the horizon. Grab summer with both hands and go enjoy this beautiful city. The Brewery Arts Center brings Dennis Johnson and the Mississippi Ramblers to the stage for tonight’s free concert. Check out the Railroad Museum for your fill of music and antique motor cars. Car lovers have two shows to choose from today: spectators will be able to enjoy both, but you’ll have to pick one if you want to enter your ride. Keep reading for more summertime fun.

Family Fun Saturday: Musical Instruments

Nevada has a very musical past. When people move here they bring their own music and when Virginia City was booming musical acts traveled here to perform.

Now we get a wide variety of musical performances in and around Carson City. Come to the Nevada State Museum to make musical instruments out of common everyday objects to take home on Saturday, August 11. The program will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Cost: $8 for adults; members and kids age 17 and under free.

'Singin in the Rain' is probably one of my favorite movies, but I have no doubt that the Western Nevada Musical Theater Company has taken the classic to new heights. Get tickets now if you'd like to catch their production, they are known for sold-out shows. Funnel cakes, Ferris Wheels, and more are waiting for you at Mills Park. A carnival is a great way to help Mom celebrate her special day.

It’s a blast from the past weekend. Get started with some history at the Dangberg Home Historic Ranch with the Naughty Tea Mistresses. A walking tour of our haunted past begins at the corner of Third and Curry with the Downtown Ghost Walk. Celebrate Prohibition-style at the Brewery Arts Center: the annual Speakeasy Swing Dance Party wants to see you in your finest zoot suit or flapper dress. Head back to the Eighties at Living the Good Life; DJ Bobby G is spinning the hits from yesteryear.

Chinese New Year at the Children's Museum

Clifford's Birthday Party at the Children's Museum

The Children's Museum of Northern Nevada is hosting a birthday party for Clifford, the big red dog. Clifford will be visiting the museum from 12-1pm. Come create Clifford themed arts and crafts. Me and Mommy (or Daddy) Pinch Pot Class

This is a great way to spend quality, creative and fabulously fun time with your kid/s! In this one-day class both adult and child will create a unique and delightful hand-built cup and saucer! Techniques will include pinch pots, coils, slab roll and underglaze! Each adult may bring up to three children ages 7-15. ADVANCE REGISTRATION REQUIRED.

Books and Brags at the Children's Museum

Books and Brags: Theme Nov. 27th is Mittens

Story-time and crafts for Pre-school/ elementary age children. On 11/27 will have a warming winter theme, Mittens! We will read the story "The Mitten" and learn the "The Mitten Song" and create our own bell mittens. Hope to see you there. Free event with admission.
