10 a.m. — Reno Event Center doors opens
10:10 a.m. — Veterans officially “Welcomed Home” and thanked for their service. They, and the public are invited to avail themselves of services and outreach opportunities provided by veteran service organizations in Northern Nevada. Also available are static displays of Vietnam era equipment, a Vietnam mobile museum and music from the era with US Navy Veteran and DJ, Mr. Shane Whitecloud.
Navy League to Celebrate Veteran's Day

We will also pay tribute to our MIA’s and POW’s and celebrate both the Navy and Marine Corps birthdays. Our speaker for the Special Veteran’s Day celebration will be Katherine (Kat) Miller, Colonel, USA retired, who is Director of the Nevada Department of Veterans Services.

Brigadier General Zachary Doser has been chosen to serve as Deputy Grand Marshal in the November 11th event honoring veterans and those currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.
Veterans Guest House Receives 'Veteran Supporter of the Month' Award and Recognition

Later dubbed by President Roosevelt as "a day that will live in infamy," the USS Nevada was the only American battleship to get underway during the assault. Still, she was beached during the attack after sustaining six bomb strikes and a direct hit from a torpedo.

World War II veteran Frank Minervini is celebrating his 103rd birthday with much needed dental work provided by Randy Wright, DDS at Advanced Dentistry by Design in Carson City after a series of communications that began with a single email to Assemblyman P.K. O’Neill, who represents District 40 including Carson City and parts of Washoe County.
Nationally touring war exhibition 'Always Lost' returns to Nevada’s capital with reception this morning

These soldiers were all children once…they stood in that first pair of shoes, released supports, leaned into the wind of unknowing, wobbled that first step toward war.” Literary work by Breeden and other Nevada writers accompany photographs of the nearly 7,000 U.S military Iraq and Afghanistan war dead since Sept.11, 2001, all part of the nationally touring arts and humanities exhibition “Always Lost: A Meditation on War.”

Nevada Department of Veterans Services Launches License Plate Ad Campaign
Submitted by editor on Thu, 06/19/2014 - 6:43amThe Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles offers 21 different plates for veterans and family members. The plates can be viewed on the DMV veteran license plate page.
The campaign was launched to increase participation in the veterans plates and a portion of the purchase funds goes to the Veteran Gift Account. The gift account is used by the NDVS to fund veteran outreach efforts and programs throughout the state, which benefit veterans and family members.

This is a change of location. The dinner hour will begin after 6:15 PM. Attendees will be accessing the Casino Buffett from the Banquet Room. Our speaker will be Katherine (Kat) Miller, Col. USA, ret., the Executive Director of the Nevada Office of Veterans Services. She is a 34 year veteran of the US Army and a Military Correctional Specialist.
