I hope you got your fill of naps last weekend because this weekend is chock full of fun to be had for all. You can Wine Walk until you Holiday Crawl downtown. Take your pick of craft shows in town. Kids won’t want to miss the Santa Train at the State Railroad Museum or one of the two performances of ‘The Peanutcracker’ at the Community Center. Whether you’d like to spend the days indoors or out, there is something for all ages in the Carson City area this weekend.

SATURDAY:

• Nevada Artists Association Art Exhibit at the Carson Visitor Center (8am-6pm)

To understand the history of the Nevada State Museum, explains Bob Nylen, the museum’s curator of history, you need to first understand the history of the U.S. Mint in Carson City. It began operation in 1870 and ran until 1893.

Feeling nostalgic? The 20th Anniversary of Space Jam is playing at the Galaxy Theater in case you need a fix of the 90s. Capital City Arts Initiative proudly presents some new art in the Sierra Room of the Community Center. You’ll be able to check out ‘Glyphs and Houses’, a solo exhibition by Amelia Currier during public meetings and on Friday afternoons. The Adams Hub is a great resource for entrepreneurs and small business owners: today’s Entrepreneur Assembly is all about getting you started and on your way.

If today is any indication of how hard it is going to choose between fun activities, we have a tough few days ahead. The Carson Tahoe Spooktacular is an annual favorite for the kids, complete with treats, activities, and helicopers. It’s Family Night at the RSVP Nevada Day Carnival: thanks to Carson City Toyota-Scion, all rides are just $1. Dayton offers a Haunted Hayride through their old town history. Costumes are encouraged for this family fun event. Root beer floats await at the grand opening celebration of the newly renovated FISH.

It’s that time of year again. The ghosts and ghouls come out of hiding and paint the town orange. Halloween isn’t just one night around here. Combined with the festivities of Nevada Day, you can be sure to enjoy at least a week’s worth of celebrating.

Whoo-hoo for Wednesday. The week keeps plugging along and the temperatures are rising. Head to McFadden Plaza for this afternoon’s Farmers Market; they are almost over for the year. Keep close to downtown and take advantage of the Brewers Cabinet Tap Takeover of the Firkin and Fox. Grab the mic at SlotWorld’s karaoke night. Enjoy good food, drink, and music as John and Cherie Shipley host the jazz jam at Living the Good Life. Put on your thinking cap and grab your smartest friends if you want to compete in the Geeks Who Drink pub quiz at Westside Pour House.

WEDNESDAY:

On Thursday, October 27 bring your family and friends to the annual Haunted Hayride of the Historical Society of Dayton Valley. This free event is our "give-back" to the community and celebrates Dayton history in a fun, family-friendly evening. Continuous old-fashioned hayrides will circle through an Old Town Dayton filled with ghosts of the past, all of whom share a lighthearted attitude toward their history. The evening starts at the museum, where there will also be games for the kids and light refreshments. Costumes are encouraged and kids from 0 to 102 are invited!

Get your motor running, Street Vibrations Fall Rally roars into town today. Check out the new Battle Born Harley-Davidson: five days of demos, an open house, vendors, and much more. Learn about what technology the Carson City School District is using during a special presentation at the Carson Library. Karaoke is now at SlotWorld on the east end of town for our local singers, or check out the open mic at the Firkin and Fox. UPDATE 4:15PM From Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong: The Carson City Fire Department and Sheriff’s Office responded to two arson-related fires at the Foreman-Roberts House Museum over the weekend. The first fire was reported on Sunday morning at approximately 2:34 a.m., damaging primarily the east side of the structure. On Monday morning at approximately 4:29 a.m., another fire was reported, this time the origin site was located on the south side of the building. The two incidents have resulted in moderate damage to the building.

McFadden Plaza will be hopping tonight. Not only is there a Farmers Market late Wednesday afternoons, but Josh and Jenera have returned to the Firkin and Fox to host a weekly jam session. You'll find John and Cherie Shipley jazzing it up at Living the Good Life, and Glen Eagles Restaurant welcomes Terri Campillo and Craig Fletcher to their lounge every Wednesday through Saturday night to entertain you.

WEDNESDAY: Jazz and Beyond Music Festival

I'm chomping at the bit for Saturday: the Taste of Downtown is almost here. It is one of my absolute favorite events, and one of the most delicious. Grab your tickets at Classy Seconds Thrift Store or the Purple Avocado. A jazz jam with Tom Stryker at Living the Good Life is a great way to soothe the soul.

Holy moly. Carson City is hopping with fun times for everyone. Enjoy Saturday downtown with the Third and Curry Farmers Market, the Downtown Business Association Wine Walk, and a free concert at the Brewery Arts Center. Mills Park features the return of the RSVP Carnival with rides, food, booths, games, and more.

Planes, trains, and bicycles are the theme of this Fathers’ Day weekend. Epic Rides has taken over downtown with booths, bikes, beer, music, and more. The Carson City Airport is hosting their annual Fly-in and Open house, complete with hot air balloon rides. World War II aviation buffs won’t want to miss the Wings of Freedom tour at the Minden Airport. Steampunk meets Steam trains at the Nevada Railroad Museum. It's Friday, Carson City. Epic Rides descends on our valley, and I must say, it is one epic event. Beware that quite a few of our downtown streets will be closed and there will be bikes everywhere. Live music can be found at a stage on Musser Street, the Brewery Arts Center, and most all of our casinos. A huge welcome goes out to those in town for the Annual Pow Wow at Stewart Indian School. Don't forget that Fathers' Day is Sunday: plenty of our local shops have something just perfect for the man in your life.

FRIDAY:

Go for broke this Wednesday. Or you could go for Baroque this evening with the Tahoe Symphony at Corpus Christi Church just south of town. Another good bet is karaoke at Crossroads Lounge: it’s in the East Winnie Lane shopping center with San Marcos Grill and Bleu Café. The West Side Cruiser Ride for Bike Month is a sure thing. Meet at the Brewery Art Center, costumes are highly encouraged, and then meander around our beautiful downtown with some other fun people. Living the Good Life wants you to enjoy a music jam; bring your instrument if you want to sit in.

Several Nevada museums are offering free admission to the nation’s active duty military personnel including National Guard and Reserve and up to five members of their families from Memorial Day through Labor Day 2016.

You can probably take ‘beach day’ off of your agenda. Spring has been briefly usurped by a blustery chill. Grab a coat and hit the town anyway. The early spring farmers market downtown, the Cops and Kids event at the Sheriff’s Department, and the Annual Relay for Life at Mills Park are still a good time. Spring fever is upon many of us, probably worst of all among the school kids. Let the Carson High School bands and theater program show off their stuff one last time before the end of the year; you'll find them at the Community Center at 7 p.m. It's also the time of year that sees more walkers and bicyclists on our sidewalks and roadways. Join Muscle Powered this evening as they participate in the 13th Annual Ride of Silence to remember those who have been hurt or killed while riding on public streets.

Want to learn something new? The Gold Hill Hotel, the Dayton Historical Society, and the Douglas County Historical Society are all offering a glimpse into the past. The American Sign Language Club at Western Nevada College invites you to an evening of storytelling, poetry, music, and fun at their ‘Open Hands Night.’ Empire Ranch is starting up its 9 and Dine events tomorrow, the only catch is that you’ve got to register by noon today. You’ll find dinner music at Glen Eagles, Sassafras, and Living the Good Life.

In celebration of Historic Preservation Month, the Carson City Historic Resources Commission will hold its 7th annual Historic Preservation Scavenger Hunt beginning Monday and running through May 31.

Into every life a little rain must fall, and we just got plenty. The tulips and lilac blooming around town will be pleased. Unfortunately, it could make for soggy feet if you’ve got any outdoor activities planned. Lucky for us, plenty of fun can be found indoors. Hit the Carson Mall for Cowgirls and Lipstick or learn about rare coins at the Nevada State Museum. Meet author Joe Crowley at Browsers' Corner Book Store or read to therapy dogs at the Carson City Library. Since the early 1980s, May has been a month for celebrating historic preservation and archaeology in Nevada. This year, the theme acknowledges the 50th anniversary of the National Historic Preservation Act, which helps to stabilize neighborhoods and downtowns, contributes to public education, attracts investment, creates jobs, generates tax revenues, supports small business and affordable housing, and powers Nevada’s heritage tourism industry.

Slow down, you move too fast. You’ve got to make the moment last. Today is Nevada Moves Day as part of Nevada Moves week. Be aware of the kids making their way to school, whether it be on foot, by bike, scooter, or skateboard. A walk along the Wellness Trail is a good way to break up the work week. Crossroads Lounge on Winne Lane is under new ownership and has just brought karaoke favorites ‘J and M Productions’ onboard Wednesday nights. Curator Mark Jensen returns to share more stories from Carson Valley's historic Dangberg Home Ranch. Just down the hill but centuries away, the family and its influence is incredibly interesting, and Jensen will tell some tales using the park's historic artifacts, photographs and documents. Join the Friends of the Library in partnership with the Lake Tahoe Historical Society for a multimedia history lesson. Free and open to all. 1000 Rufus Allen Blvd. South Lake Tahoe, CA.

This weekend is your last opportunity to experience Carson City Historical Society's "Teapots and Such" exhibit. Creamers, sugar bowls, and other tea accessories are on display. Teapots for this exhibit are different from those shown last July.

It’s a living history kind of day with presentations all around. Head up to the Gold Hill Hotel for their weekly lecture series, but don’t forget to make a reservation. The Historical Society of Douglas County discusses the facts and fiction behind Lucky Bill at the Cultural Center and Museum in Gardnerville. The Nevada Division of the Pony Express Association keeps history alive and you are welcome to attend their monthly meeting at Grandma Hattie’s tonight. Pay homage to your favorite singers of yesteryear with karaoke at Living the Good Life or Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar.
