Carson City sheriff's SET makes arrests for alleged marijuana concentrate sales

Three people were arrested Saturday by the Carson City Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Team, with two of the suspects alleged to be connected to a suspected marijuana concentrate sales operation.

Fast moving brush fire south of Carson City knocked down, crews working on hotspots

UPDATE 5:57PM: Fire crews have knocked down the Topsy Fire and are mopping up hotspots, according to fire officials. The cause of the fire is under investigation. It was noted that there were a number of lightning strikes in the area shortly before the fire started.

UPDATE 5:05PM: A Carson City Fire Department battalion chief noted the threat to structures has been reduced as the weather is cooperating, crews are hammering it and the helicopter water drops are working. Carson Now publisher Kirk Caraway, who is on scene of the fire, notes the choppers are circling the area, dumping water on hotspots.

UPDATE 4:54 PM: Evacuations are happening for homes in the area north of Topsy Lane near the Carson City county line. While the larger column of smoke has been reduced some, firefighters on scene report the fire is continuing to move at a rapid clip, fueled by gusty winds.

UPDATE 4:38PM: The Topsy Fire is moving in a northerly direction, being pushed by winds, near the Douglas County, Carson City line. It continues to burn out of control. Battalion chiefs on scene have requested immediate air tanker support to fly in to drop retardant on the fire.

Central Lyon County Fire was dispatched to the area of 10 mile hill east of Dayton for a reported brush fire at approximately 1:25 PM.

CLCFPD is being supported in firefighting efforts by Carson City, Storey County, BLM, NDF, Yerington, North Lyon and Lyon County Road Department.

Crews are actively fighting fire. There are no reported injuries or evacuations at this time. Cause is not known at this time.

Ben Jenkins, whose funeral is being held today in Elko.

UPDATE: Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch reports Wednesday that the #NumbersFire southeast of Gardnerville has grown to 20,500 acres. The Bureau of Land Management reports a lower figure, 18,000 acres, with 5 percent containment. The recommended evacuations for the Bodie Flats and Pineview areas have been lifted. Only residents are allowed to these areas.

UPDATE 3:40PM From Douglas County: The Numbers Fire is 0 percent contained and the fire is estimated to be at 10,000 acres as of Tuesday afternoon, according to the county's Facebook page. Multiple local, state and federal fire agencies are assisting and there are numerous fire apparatus and firefighters working on the scene.

Equipment on scene includes dozers, handcrews and aircraft. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. No injuries have been reported at this time. The Carson Valley Inn and the Holiday Inn Express are serving as evacuation sites. The fire is on Washoe tribe land south of Gardnerville, continues to put up dense smoke. The fire has burned at least 1 home and 10 outbuildings.

UPDATE 6:18AM Tuesday: KOLO reports the fire grew overnight to more than 5,000 acres with one home and 10 outbuildings burned and 350 homes threatened. Highway 395 remains closed.

NDOT takes public comment on future Nevada transportation projects

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Department of Transportation is inviting the public to comment through Aug. 1 on planned transportation projects and improvements outlined in the Work Program document, including updates to the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program.

Carson City emergency crews respond to crash at Highway 50 East and Arrowhead

Carson City Fire Department, sheriff's deputies and the Nevada Highway Patrol responded Sunday morning to a traffic crash in the area of Highway 50 East and Arrowhead.

Brush Fire Reported off Deer Run Road and Highway 50 E.

A brush fire was reported near Deer Run Road and Highway 50 E. off of Morgan Mills just after 7:50 p.m.

First responders are enroute.

Motorists should avoid the area and seek alternate routes.

The size is being estimated at 30 by 30 feet.

Agencies respond to brush fire near China Springs Road in Douglas, crash on US 50 near Spooner Lake

UPDATE: Forward progress on the fire was stopped as of 5:27 p.m., according to an East Fork Fire battalion chief.

East Fork Fire responded Thursday afternoon to a brush fire in the China Springs area on the west side of Highway 395. Multiple resources are responding, including a brush unit from Carson City that was placed on standby.
