Thank You Carson City for Remembering

This is to express my gratitude to the organizers of the 9/11 memorial held at Mills Park. The ceremony was poignant, reverent, and healing. The presentation of colors in front of the I-Beam was so moving as was the ringing of the fire bell later in the service. Also, I wish to thank the members of the community who showed up to remember our heros. Your attendance and quiet respect was amazing. Thank you Carson City for not forgetting.

CARSON CITY — Anytime a child picks up a book and reads it cover to cover, it is the equivalent to hitting a home run.

Emphasizing the importance of reading to more than 100 Seeliger Elementary fourth graders, WNC baseball players Donald Glover, Evan Parker and Carson Now sports editor and play-by-play announcer Chris Graham used the children's book "Home Run" to encourage youngsters to think of reading like playing baseball or softball. Finishing books from front to back should be celebrated because the rewards — learning something new — will last a lifetime.

Holiday With a Hero, Day 1

Sheriff's officers, state troopers, National Guardsmen, and a plethora of other volunteers - and their charges - middle and high school students in need of a Christmas - converged at Wal-Mart at 9 p.m. Wednesday morning for the annual Holiday with a Hero event.

With 280 low-income students to help, this year's shopping spree had to be broken up into two groups - one of middle and high school students, and one of elementary school students - spread out over two days.
