Heavy Metal

I Love Carson City’s Weekend Event Summary: May 19-20

Event Date:
May 19, 2018 (All day)
May 20, 2018 (All day)

It’s going to be a chili weekend, and that has nothing to do with the weather. The annual Chili on the Comstock Competition takes over the tiny town of Virginia City, including a saloon crawl Saturday and the hilarious ‘Fun with the Runs’ 5K. Families will have a hard time choosing between the Cops and Kids Open House and Safety Fair at the Sheriff’s Office and the ‘Kids to Parks’ Day activities at Silver Saddle Ranch. Keep reading, and I apologize in advance for throwing so many great options your way.

SATURDAY:

This Friday night will be a show unlike anything you have ever seen. The Brewery Arts Center in Carson City partners with Le Cirque Vagabond to bring the Las Vegas stylings of Asylum, an over 18+ production.

Tahoe Fire and Fuels Team reminds people to 'Can Your Ashes'

Lake Tahoe’s fire departments are reminding people that it’s dangerous to dispose of fireplace, wood stove or barbecue ashes in improper containers and locations. Embers, often concealed in what appears to be cold ashes, can remain hot enough to kindle a fire for several days. It is recommended to wait at least 96 hours and/or 4 days before disposing ashes.
To safely dispose of ashes:

• Put discarded ashes in a heavy metal container, douse with water, and cover with fitted metal lid.

Behind the scenes of a legislature reporter (this one, anyway)

by MOLLY MOSER

I’ve successfully reported the very first half of the legislature and have been through quite a lot. The majority of the experiences are good and quite silly and I would like to share them with you. Not a lot of people get to witness what’s behind the curtains of a Nevada Media Alliance reporter. Here, I share my experiences, in no particular order including: my efforts, encounters, and outcomes all while reporting for the Nevada Legislature.

Eagle Scout project benefits Fritsch

They looked like a chain gang.

Through syncopated rhythm, men young and old brought their down shovels and hoes onto the weeds, effectively cutting them off from existence. On the other side of the school grounds, women and children were picking up trash, repairing the track circle and supplying everyone with an unconditional amount of pizza and water.

This event was an Eagle Scout Project headed by David McMasters on June 22 to improve Fritsch Elementary School’s track and playground for generations to come.
