Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of Aug. 17-23, 2015: Beginning Sunday through Thursday, August 20, crews will be re-striping pavement markings on roadways throughout the city each night from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning. There will be a moving traffic control at locations where the striping occurs, with minor delays expected.

Jazz and Beyond continues with Stereo Galaxy at Third and Carson, an outdoor concert at the new Brewery Art Center Minnesota Street Stage, and a special event at the Governor’s Mansion with the Horse Crazy Cowboy Band. Sierra-at-Tahoe will hold a candlelight vigil Wednesday for Michael Hallenbeck of Shingle Springs, Calif. The 21-year old U.S. Forest Service firefighter died Saturday fighting a lightning-caused fire south of Echo Summit.

Known by friends and family as Mikey, Hallenbeck was a Sierra-at-Tahoe employee for the past two seasons and a local firefighter.

I hope you’re in the mood for music, Carson City. The annual Jazz and Beyond Festival begins today with an art show and concert on the lawn of the Bliss Mansion. Over the next two weeks you’ll have a plethora of melody to choose from at venues throughout town. Enjoy an outdoor concert at Third and Carson with Drinking with Clowns. Sassafras is thrilled to grab Groove Session for a show; they’re usually off touring. Mo’z Motley Blues will give you a reason to dance at Living the Good Life. BSA Troop 33 is excited to announce it will be hosting its 2nd Annual “Send a Scout to Camp” Car and Truck Show Fundraiser on August 15, 2015 at Carson City’s Fuji Park.

The Show will be from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.; award ceremony starts at 3 p.m. Registration is $40 per entry. There is still time for pre-registration or you can register on the day of the event. Each participant will receive a T-shirt, one lunch meal ticket, and a dash plaque.

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of August 3-9, 2015: Beginning Tuesday, August 4, Minnesota Street will be closed to through traffic between King and Second Streets. The area will be used as a public space for special events.

The Nevada Department of Transportation will continue construction of drainage improvements on U.S. Highway 50 West between the two truck ramps, just west of Highway 395 to Sierra Highlands Drive. There will be lane closures Monday through Friday, but the roadway will remain open to traffic in both directions.

The weekend has arrived and it’s bringing a plethora of activity with it. Car lovers will want to head to the Silver Dollar Car Classic at the Max Casino, known as the Carson Station just a few days ago. The Classic moves to Mills Park for the weekend. If the Mustangs and Broncos you prefer are horses, rather than Fords, you’ll want to grab a ticket to the Bull Riding Competition at the State Fair. Carnival rides, circus performances, and live music will keep everyone entertained. Make sure to catch the shuttle from the Casino Fandango parking garage: parking at Fuji Park is extremely limited. ‘Break a leg’ to the cast of Peter Pan. Youth Theater Carson City opens tonight at the Community Center.

Let’s all go to the Fair! The grand opening and ribbon cutting is at Fuji Park at noon. Funnel cakes, clowns, rabbits, circus games and more await. If you’re a classic car lover, then the Plaza Hotel is the place for you. The annual Silver Dollar Car Classic kicks off tonight with music and more before it moves on to its traditional place at Mills Park. Jelly Bread is in town and playing a free show at Sassafras, and celebrate your July birthday at the Carson Cigar Bar with their monthly birthday bash.

It’s a wine walk weekend, the Nevada Fair is in town, and classic cars will be everywhere as the Silver Dollar Car Classic rolls into town. Take a moment and enjoy today for what it is: a gorgeous sunny day in Northern Nevada. Head over to El Charro Avita if you’ve always wanted to learn to swing dance. Take the kids to a puppet performance of Aladdin at the Library. Or head to Carson Lanes for their one dollar bowling special and stick around for some line dancing.

The early bird catches the worm and in this case, the early bird gets special pricing for tickets to Lake Tahoe’s only farm-to-fork festival Sample the Sierra.

Early bird tickets for Sample the Sierra are available until August 1 and allow you to attend the festival for just $30 to fully experience dozens of restaurants, wineries, distilleries and breweries. Tickets will be priced at $40 per person from August 1 until the festival on September 6.

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of July 27 to August 2, 2015. Beginning Monday Little Lane will be closed from Janas Way to Saliman Road for a reconstruction project. The road will remain closed until project completion. Detours will be marked.

This fourth Thursday of July has been declared National Refreshment Day; teamed up with National Hot Dog Day and Vanilla Ice Cream Day, today should be yummy. Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of July 20-26, 2015. Beginning Sunday, July 19, through Friday, July 24, there will be nightly lane closures on Carson Street between Old Clear Creek Road and Snyder Avenue from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., as part of the Nevada Department of Transportation’s continued work on the construction of the Carson City Freeway.

The 17th hole at Edgewood Tahoe was the scene of the Korbel Hole-in-One contest Friday at the American Century Championship, bringing together some of the biggest names in sports and entertainment to help raise money for Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care.

Sunday funday for families! Start the day at the Elks Club; the WNC Student Veteran Club is hosting a pancake breakfast and kids activities. Hit up the Nevada State Railroad Museum for rides on the Steam Train. Mills Park has a much smaller train to ride and plenty of room to run, play, and picnic. Watch the kittens play at Petsmart: SPCA is hosting a kitten party for adoptable pets. A concert with the Mark Sexton Band at the Dangberg Home Historic Ranch is a great way to end the weekend.

American Century Investments will continue as title sponsor of the nation’s premier celebrity golf tournament, the American Century Championship with a seven-year extension through 2022, officials announced Friday.

The championship will continue to take place at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in Lake Tahoe as a result of the agreement, jointly announced by American Century Investments and NBC Sports, owner and operator of the championship.

This is what we learned on the opening day of the American Century Championship, which in its 26 year and has grown into a weeklong event. The golf competition is Friday through Sunday, but the overall event began Wednesday.

STATELINE — Sports stars and celebrities worked out the kinks from tee to green Tuesday during the opening practice round of the American Century Championship at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course at Lake Tahoe.

Among the headliners to warm up and sign autographs at the famed Tahoe South course were defending 2014 champion Mark Rypien, retired New York Yankees pitcher Roger Clemens, American Olympic soccer star Brandi Chastain and first-timer Justin Timberlake.

The Second Tuesday of the month always means jazz. The Mile High Jazz Band performs tonight at Comma Coffee with vocalist Cindee LeVal. Enjoy Christmas in July with the Friends of the Carson Library’s Food Drive. A non-perishable food donation gets you a Christmas book and a coupon for a dollar off at Browser’s Corner Book Store. Make sure to get your pizza fix at Pizza Factory on Highway 50. It’s Pop Warner Day, so any purchase will send a few dollars to the boys and girls involved in the program.

More than 150 golfers are expected to compete in the 16th annual Western Nevada College Golf Classic to be held Friday, Sept. 18 at Silver Oak Course. Signups are now underway.

Proceeds from the annual tournament hosted by the Western Nevada College Foundation benefit College programs, help students achieve their academic goals and give back to the community as a skilled, educated workforce.
