As the weather warms up, people begin to daydream about the ideal summer. Phrases like “best summer ever” and “#Summer2k17” get thrown around. To ensure those dreams live up to expectations, Nevada has put together a summer bucket list for adventurers, explorers and travelers of all types.

More people will be out on the streets Monday night in Carson City than any other evening of the year as the Nevada state capital prepares to celebrate Halloween night.

After an action-packed Nevada Day Saturday, Sunday traditions carry on, such as the 35th Annual La Ka Lel Be Pow Wow at the Carson Colony gym. Take the kids up to Virginia City for one last chance to catch Thomas the Tank Engine at the V & T Depot. It may be a little rainy, but the show must go on at the NV Day Carnival and Festival at Mills Park.

Happy Birthday Nevada. My favorite holiday has arrived, and with it a mountain of fun to be had. Normally my weekend list is sorted by chronological start time, but for this one I will be separating out the downtown parade related activities for your ease. Keep reading and have a safe and wonderful weekend.

Parade Day Fun Stuff in Downtown Carson City:

It’s that time of year again. The ghosts and ghouls come out of hiding and paint the town orange. Halloween isn’t just one night around here. Combined with the festivities of Nevada Day, you can be sure to enjoy at least a week’s worth of celebrating.

Saturday, Oct. 22:

On Thursday, October 27 bring your family and friends to the annual Haunted Hayride of the Historical Society of Dayton Valley. This free event is our "give-back" to the community and celebrates Dayton history in a fun, family-friendly evening. Continuous old-fashioned hayrides will circle through an Old Town Dayton filled with ghosts of the past, all of whom share a lighthearted attitude toward their history. The evening starts at the museum, where there will also be games for the kids and light refreshments. Costumes are encouraged and kids from 0 to 102 are invited!

GENOA, Nev. – Do you believe in ghosts? Find out if Mormon Station is haunted during a real paranormal investigation. This unique experience includes a tour of the park, a light Dutch oven dinner and a haunting paranormal investigation under the light of the moon.

Inspiration can come from anywhere. Sometimes, business lessons come flying at me faster than I can take notes about them. Ideas are sort of like orbs. Some you can’t see unless you are looking for them. Some people believe in them, some don’t. Yet they are always a topic of discussion. The orbs were flying like crazy at The St. Charles Hotel this past weekend.

Madame Curry paid special tribute to the spirits Saturday night during the Mary Ann Bennett Memorial Ghost Walk through sections of Carson City’s historic west side neighborhood.

Compared to the last few weekends, Carson City is downright sleepy. That just makes it much easier to get around town and explore. Head to Mills Park for the First Annual Polynesian Festival in the Marv Teixeira Pavillion. Glen Eagles welcomes back the Regional Chili Cook-off this weekend; get your fill of some amazing grub and help raise funds for Honor Flight Nevada. Local author Arlene L. Jenkins introduces her newest book "True Stories of Ghosts and Spirits of Nevada, Past and Present" on Saturday, July 9 at Browsers Corner in Carson City.

Huge congratulations go out the graduating class of Western Nevada College. Head to the Mills Park Pavilion to witness your favorite Wildcat get their diploma. For an update on the downtown construction progress, head to Alatte inside the Carson Nugget for a Q&A with Q&D and Public Works. Go searching for ghosts at the Gold Hill Hotel. MONDAY:

For his senior project Shane Johnson, 18, wanted to do something practical, something that would be beneficial to his life and education goals.

“I designed and built a windmill,” he said. “It tied straight in to what I want to do, and it looked a lot of fun.”
Johnson joined his fellow Carson High School seniors on Monday, presenting their final projects to a of panel judges made up of Carson City community members.

The Carson Victory Rollers are holding their annual breast cancer awareness scrimmage, this year with a Halloween theme "Save the Boooo-bies"- Ghosts vs. Goblins.

$5 donation at the door with all proceeds going directly to local cancer foundations. Junior team skates at 5:00. Kids/Teens costume contest at 6:00. Adult scrimmage at 6:30.

Author of children’s adventure books, Mary Randall will speak on her book “A Walk Through the Woods” in a free presentation at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Saturday, August 8, at 10:00 am.

In her book Mary Randall asks the reader to believe in magic and have a zest for adventure as they trek along with Bobby and his pals through the Magic Kingdom of the woods. The reader will encounter talking animals, twists, turns, and secrets along with Indian spirits and ghosts of the Civil War. Randall hopes that readers will enjoy this amazing journey of surprises, mysteries and fun.

Thin Veil Investigators, a Carson City based Paranormal Investigative team (since 2005) are participating in the Battle Born "Brews, Bikes & Bubbly" event, on June 26 and 27 (Friday & Saturday) 2015 with hosting a tour and investigation at the famous St. Charles Hotel in Carson City, Nevada. TVIers will talk about the history of the building, and accompany guests on a tour/investigation of the hotel.

The Proscenium Players present 'Polter-heist: A Hauntingly Hiliarious Murder Mystery Dinner Theater Show' in the Pinion Room of the Gold Dust West Hotel and Casino for three weekends, starting Feb. 13. I would like to plead to our neighbors in Carson City to not have awful decorations up for Halloween. Halloween is a great time for fun and a bit of a scare, but not for rated R front yards.

It’s fun to decorate, but sometimes we kids feel like people decorate a little too much on Halloween. I go to school at Mark Twain Elementary. There is a house practically right in front of the school, and everyone sees it’s awful decorations, every morning while going to school.
