Welcome to Thursday, Carson City. A storm’s coming in, so go out and have some fun before the snow shows up. Sing your heart out at Living the Good Life or Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar: it’s karaoke night. The Francis Humphrey Lecture Series returns to the Nevada State Museum with some freakish phenomenon found in the Black Rock Desert. Break a leg to the talented members of the Carson High Drama class performing at the Brewery Art Center. There will be three performances of ‘And Then They Came for Me,’ so don’t miss them in action.

The 5th annual Northern Nevada Youth Art Show

For one day, Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery will be staged with the original artwork of our youth. Each young artist will be on hand to discuss their own art and most artwork will be available for purchase.

Mystique celebrates grand opening

Mystique Restaurant and Lounge held a grand opening celebration Tuesday night, an event attended by dozens of supporters.

The restaurant, located downtown at 318 N. Carson Street, occupies the space formerly used by Sassafras and B’sghetti’s restaurants. Mystique opened for business in December after the Carson City Board of Supervisors approved its liquor license.

Tuesday’s grand opening celebration included 5-6 different free appetizers, live music, and free champagne to guests.

On display in the Whittemore Gallery of the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center, University of Nevada, Reno is the exhibit Media Technology: Past and Present. Through this exhibit, visitors will enjoy a visual display of media technological leaps.

Mark Gandolfo, lead curator and Director of Digital Media Technology, stated "It is fascinating to view the analog to digital evolution in media production technology through these artifacts on display. Students are amazed at the size and amount of equipment needed for past high quality multimedia production."

Comstock Cemetery Foundation benefits from Virginia City's own Nevada-made gin spirit

For more than seven years Virginia City has been having fun with “Cemetery Gin” a Nevada-made spirit available at local saloons, bars and stores throughout Northern Nevada which celebrates a tall tale from the Comstock’s rich mining days of the 1850s.

Spearheaded by the Virginia City Tourism Commission, the gin is a product of Frey Ranch Estate Distillery, located in Fallon, Nev., where all the ingredients were grown, distilled and bottled.

Reception Tuesday at OXS Gallery features Nate Clark's recent paintings in 'Leeway'

Reno artist Nate Clark’s paintings are featured at the Nevada Arts Council’s OXS Gallery through March 11, with a reception and artist talk set for 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19. Clark’s discussion begins at 6:15. The reception is free and open to the public. In “Leeway,” a selection of Clark’s recent paintings, the artist examines order and structure through mark making.

The Nevada Division of the Pony Express Association keeps history alive and you are welcome to attend their monthly meeting at Grandma Hattie’s tonight.
