J's Bistro in Dayton hosts a spaghetti feed fundraiser for the Remote Area Medical program. A special lecture on the Sutro Tunnel takes place in Virginia City this evening.

The fifth annual Fall Festival and Chili Cook Off will be on Saturday, September 17th, at the Recreation Complex in South Lake Tahoe.The event will open at 10:00 a.m. and run until 4:00 p.m. The Chili Tasting will be from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.
Admission to the event itself is free and will offer a free drawing prize ticket to attendees.

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. — Former MLB All-Star pitcher Mark Mulder, the defending champion, and newly-retired pro tennis champion Mardy Fish are listed as co-favorites by the Harrah’s and Harveys Race & Sports Book to win the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament, July 22-24, at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course.

Mulder and Fish are both 3-1 to win the 27th annual competition airing live on NBC and NBCSN next weekend.

Building on its June Go4Baroque Summer MusicFest kickoff series, TOCCATA will continue its 21-concert Summer MusicFest with TOCCATA BOPS, featuring Best of Broadway, Opera hits, Pops and Patriotic selections.

Several Nevada museums are offering free admission to the nation’s active duty military personnel including National Guard and Reserve and up to five members of their families from Memorial Day through Labor Day 2016.

The Nevada Outdoor Experience Youth/Family Expo will be Saturday, June 18. This free family event is designed to excite and inspire the next generation of outdoor enthusiasts. We have something for everyone.

Everything is FREE. Events include: rock climbing wall, metal detecting, archery, gold panning, BB gun ranges, laser shot, trap and skeet, and many, many more hands-on events led by specialists in their field. Over 20 organizations are volunteering to put on this event. Free raffles for the kids, starting around noon.

You can probably take ‘beach day’ off of your agenda. Spring has been briefly usurped by a blustery chill. Grab a coat and hit the town anyway. The early spring farmers market downtown, the Cops and Kids event at the Sheriff’s Department, and the Annual Relay for Life at Mills Park are still a good time. Grab your cowboy boots and learn to line dance at Carson Lanes. Sassafras welcomes Judith and Rocky to the stage for a jazz jam as fun and funky as their menu.

TUESDAY:

Nevada residents and visitors are invited to “Discover Nevada State Parks” on Saturday, June 11. Park visitors will receive free day use admission and free fishing (no license required) at all of Nevada’s 23 State Parks.

Ready to have some fun? Virginia City’s Chili on the Comstock Cook-off goes on all weekend. For some healthier fare, hit up the Spring Farmers Market downtown. Go fly a kite at Dangberg Home Historic Park, just past Douglas High School on Highway 88; their ‘Something in the Wind’ Celebration is both Saturday and Sunday. Don’t forget to leave non-perishable food by your mailbox: the annual ‘Stamp Out Hunger’ food drive is today.
