Public comment sought for Fallen Leaf Lake trail access plans

The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit is asking for public input on the proposed Fallen Leaf Lake Trail Access and Travel Management project. The project would improve the recreation experience for residents and visitors to the Fallen Leaf Lake area, while protecting the natural, cultural, and historic resources of the area.

Nevada conservation projects earn RMEF grants

Restoring and protecting habitat for foraging elk and other wildlife headline a list of 2011 grants for Nevada from the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
The RMEF grants total $42,700 and affect Carson City, Churchill, Douglas, Elko, Lyon, Nye, Washoe and White Pine counties. One project has statewide interest, affecting teachers and students across Nevada.

Silver City Plans a Summer Full of Family Fun

The Silver City Community Partners, formerly known as the Silver City Task Force, has announced a full summer schedule of community events and programs. The tightknit community of Silver City works together to offer a free summer youth program, monthly community dinners, cultural events, a volunteer library, cooking lessons, and a community garden.

Carson City planners today will consider a special use permit to install a series of solar panels at Eagle Valley Middle School.

ANNOUNCING A PEDDLER'S FAIRE AT SIERRA CREST ACADEMY ON SATURDAY MAY 15TH FROM 10-3PM.
Minden's local charter school is having a Peddler's Faire for their fund raiser this year. There will be a huge rummage sale and a chili cook-off as well as vender's selling their wears! The kid's will be doing fencing and archery demonstrations through out the day and there will be live music by Tuck Williams and Michelle Supelana-Mix.

Carson City Freeway project awarded for archeological efforts

The Nevada Department of Transportation has received an award for archeological preservation of the Old Stewart Indian Cemetery. 
An Exemplary Human Environment Initiative award to NDOT was presented by the Federal Highway Administration for partnering efforts to enhance and preserve the historic cemetery as part of the Carson City Freeway project.
