Being a federal holiday, local, state and federal offices are closed, as are schools and banks. Activities include a meeting of Carson City AGLOW International at the Children's Museum, a campaign rally featuring presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg, a meeting of the Carson City Democrats focusing on Saturday's Nevada caucus, fitness events, West Coast swing dance lessons at Carson Lanes and more.

City, state and federal offices are closed as are schools. Friends of the Carson City Library's Browser's Book Store at 711 East Washington St., is open from noon to 5 p.m. Activities around the capital city include a canyon area cleanup hosted by Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space, a luncheon highlighting the campaign of Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang, swing dance lessons and more. League of Women Voters Forum: state and federal offices
Submitted by editor on Mon, 10/22/2018 - 7:15amDuring the month of October, the League of Women Voters of Northern Nevada held four voters forums, and on Tuesday October 16, in the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall in Carson City, candidates for state and federal offices took the stage to speak and answer audience questions. Roughly 200 people were in attendance. The moderator was Deirdre Peterson.

Tree permits at Lake Tahoe sell out; permits available at nearby Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Wed, 12/04/2013 - 6:37pmThere was a run on Christmas trees in the Lake Tahoe Basin over Thanksgiving weekend. The bad news is that all 2,500 permits were snagged and there won't be anymore issued between now and Christmas.
The good news is nearby Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, which has 5,000 permits this season, continues to sell them at a rapid clip, Forest Service officials said.
Forest Service Christmas tree permits on sale beginning Nov. 22
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 11/05/2013 - 11:43amChristmas tree cutting permits available through the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, Carson Ranger District will be ready for sale beginning Nov. 22 and lasting through Dec. 24 or until the 4,000 permits are sold.
Permits are issued on a first-come, first-served basis for $10 each in designated cutting areas for white fir, incense cedar, Jeffrey, and lodgepole pine trees, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

To avoid waiting in line, you may also preregister at the Democratic Headquarters 502 E. Johnson Street, Friday April 13 from 6PM to 9 PM. If you would like to become a Democrat, you may also register with the party at this time.
