Farmers' Market

Bike Month is only a third of the way through, but Bike Week in Carson City is coming to a close. For those taking their bike to work today, Comma Coffee and LA Bakery are offering a cup of joe on your way. Pedal your way to the Max Casino for the Grand Opening of the Black Bear Diner; you’re going to need your strength to get through this day full of fun stuff to do. The Nevada State Fair is in full swing and a street dance at the Pavilion starts at 6 p.m.

The Farmers Markets is the place to be on Thursday nights for shopping and a fun night out. It will feature free, live classic rock concerts, food trucks, family-friendly fun, a beer garden with local craft beers, and weekly summer games by Sam Adams, where you can win free beer for a year. Bands perform for free from 7:00 p.m. – 10 p.m. The 10,000 square foot market will be under a covered tent, so visitors will be shaded from the summer heat and able to shop in comfort.

What a week. Granted, it was a short one, but school got out for the summer and we saw the weather go from a wintery chill to summery hot. Get your early primary vote in this afternoon, then stick around for the Artist Reception for the new exhibit in the CCAI Gallery upstairs in the Courthouse Building. Live music can be found at our bigger casinos, and a dj will keep you on the dance floor at Jimmy G’s, Alatte in the Carson Nugget, and Living the Good Life. Sassafras welcomes Bryan McPherson to the stage at 8 pm; you’ll want to get there earlier to take full advantage of their menu.

A few days left of school, a few days left of May: summer is knocking on the door and insisting to be let in. If only it would bring some sunshine with it, we’d be set. Get the weekend started with a good time downtown: Stereo Galaxy at Westside Pour House, comedy at the Nugget, and a DJ at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar. Party 80s style at Whiskey Tavern’s karaoke party. Minden kicks off a summer of Concerts in the Park tonight with a tribute to the Beatles.

Friday! We have survived the workweek, and for the students of Western Nevada College, the semester. Kick up your heels and enjoy yourselves tonight. Whether you want karaoke, comedy, live music, or dancing: you have a multitude of choices. Sip wine and paint at Van Gogh and Vino or Mona Lisa and Wine. Enjoy open mic at A to Zen or dance performances at Comma Coffee. Nothing will rain on our parade, Carson City. In addition to the monthly wine walk, the weekend offers a carnival, train rides, the Kentucky Derby, Mother’s Day and more. Tonight, Western Nevada Musical Theater Company debuts their spring musical ‘42nd Street.’ Find improv at the Brewery Arts Center or Comedy at the Carson Nugget. Drinking with Clowns hits the stage at Sassafras and Motown is on the menu at Living the Good Life. Food with friends is in order at Silver City’s Community Dinner Night or at A to Zen’s first ‘Fancy Friday’ open mic night.

The weekend has arrived, and it is packed with things to do. Pull on your cowboy boots and head out to the Cowboy Festival in Genoa. Head out to the ballfield: the WNC Wildcats softball and baseball teams are playing at home today and tomorrow. It’s the final weekend of the Proscenium Players production of Harvey; get ready for a great show. Today has a lot going for it. Food Truck Friday is the theme of the new United Federal Credit Union’s Grand Opening week: you can find them across the street from Mill’s Park on Williams St. Earth Day weekend kicks off at Western Nevada College with a Gem and Mineral Sale during the day, followed by a presentation by World Renowned Scientist: Dr. Charles Goldman in Marlette Hall at 7 p.m. Break a leg to the cast of ‘Harvey.’ The Procenium Players open their two weekend run at the Brewery Arts Center’s Black Box Theater tonight.

It is finally Friday. Leave the workweek behind and go have some fun. The Carson Nugget is a one-stop shop for a good time: food, drinks, comedy, and then a late night DJ all under one roof. It's time to kick off this three-day weekend. Satiate your sweet tooth at the Boys and Girls Club; high school senior Larrissa Cruzan has organized a bake sale. Head downtown to check out the Grand Opening reception at Charlie B Gallery on West Telegraph. Stick around for the great band playing at Westside Pour House or have some dinner at one the nearby restaurants. Party Mardi Gras style at Remedy’s and wear something black light reactive.

My snow dance worked! The weather should start clearing up for the next few days, so the roads should be clear. There’s no need to leave our valley though, great things are happening. The annual Share Your Christmas food drive goes on for most of the day: you don’t even need to leave your car, just drive up to the Governor’s Mansion, and someone will get your donation to the right place. Unwind, decompress and relax at a number of our great bars and restaurants.

I love Carson City. Our downtown makes every season special: flower baskets in the summer, daffodils in springtime, the changing leaves of autumn, and winter means the Nevada Christmas tree at the Capitol. Tonight is the night when the light switch gets flipped. Join Santa and our community tonight at the annual Silver and Snowflakes tree lighting. Enjoy carolers, hot cocoa, and more in Telegraph Square during the Christmas Faire. Don’t miss the talented members of Wild Horse Children’s Theater: they’ll be singing at 4 p.m.

Today is a day for leftovers and crazy shopping. If your family is in town, take them down to opening day at the Arlington Square Ice Rink. The Railroad Museum of Northern Nevada has rides on the McKeen Motor Car special for this weekend. Pinkerton Ballet begins its annual run of the Nutcracker at the Bob Boldrick Theater tonight. The cast and crew of the Western Nevada Musical Theater Co. knock it out of the park with this production. Carson High School’s annual Craft Fair begins tonight; a plethora of crafters, artisans, and vendors will be there to help with your holiday gift list. It’s West Coast Swing night at Yaple’s Ballroom, so put on your dance shoes and kick the weekend off right.
