The Carson City Historical Society presents a new exhibit, "If These Gowns Could Talk" that will cover Edwardian and Victorian fashions — the how and why of fashion along with a photographic exhibit of early Carson City around 1900. The exhibit will open on Sunday, April 24 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Foreman-Roberts House, 1207 North Carson Street, Carson City, NV. 89703 (the little yellow house on Main Street). Donations are accepted.

What distinguishes Carson City from every other city in Nevada is its unique history, and every citizen of this city should become familiar with how our City shaped the history of Nevada that still resonates today.

Yes, for some, history elicits a yawn, but once you get into it, the history of a community can be fascinating and will get you off your couch and perhaps onto your bicycle, for much of our history can be found within the downtown core where bike riding is easy. Don’t own a bike, well, you can walk to many of the sites.

Eleanor Romeo, 10, loves to read. “I like reading the Percy Jackson series. I like history — it’s about Greek gods, and it’s pretty interesting,” she said. “I also like the biography series, ‘Who Was?’ books. They’re about people who made a change in the world. They’re fun to read.”

Congratulations on surviving yet another school year, it's officially summer. Celebrate with a family outing to Bower's Mansion and stick around for some live music by Acoustic Solution. Watch out for motorcycles, now that the Spring Rally has rumbled into town, the bikes will be out in full force. The Virginia & Truckee Railroad begins its ninth season as a major visitor attraction and local’s favorite Memorial Day Weekend, May 27-28, with round trip steam trains plying the 16-mile route between Carson City and Virginia City.

Myron Freedman’s first trip to a museum was a family outing to the Nevada State Museum in Carson City in the 1960s.

Author Mark McLaughlin will speak on his book, Snowbound! Legendary Winters of the Tahoe Sierra, in a free presentation at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Sunday, July 10, at 10 a.m.

Mark McLaughlin’s latest book is not about meteorology, however it is about weather. In his book, McLaughlin focuses on the top ten biggest winters in the Tahoe Sierra based on snowfall measured at Donner Pass since 1879. He will share amazing weather facts and incredible stories of men and women struggling to cope against some of the most powerful storms on Earth.

Back on the tracks again, the V&T Railroad kicked off Saturday with a near-sold out day, ample sunshine and a promising full-steam-ahead summer.
"We had a couple of seats left, with quite a few tickets sold for tomorrow," said Candy Duncan, executive director of the Carson City Convention and Visitors Bureau. "Today went very smoothly and everyone was excited about going on that first ride of the season."
