With the South Carson Street Project winding down, Carson City is getting closer to a completed "Complete Streets Project" and anticipates reaching the Nevada Day deadline. The roundabout is nearly ready and already in use at some capacity, according to CarsonProud.com.

This spring I told myself I would remember to fertilize the lawn in the fall, because I forgot in 2019. I noticed the grass didn’t seem as strong this year and I had a lot more weeds such as clover and black medic infesting the lawn. Now fall is here and I’m ready to fertilize!

The Carson High School Retro-Homecoming and Respect Week went without a hitch, and the beauty of it was administrators, teachers, and staff had nothing whatsoever to do with making the decisions as the students chose both the candidates and the winners.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities over the next three days. The Carson City Wine Walk returns Saturday with COVID-19 restrictions. Virginia City will be filled with spooky events over the month of October with its signature Hauntober event. Due to continued public health safety concerns related to COVID-19, trail improvement work, the risk of bear-human encounters and in order to discourage large groups from gathering, the USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit has issued a Forest Order that temporarily closes Taylor Creek and the surrounding area from Oct. 3 through Nov. 2, 2020.

Increased fire activity in northern California and a return of modest west winds may bring a return of haze and smoke to the Carson City, Lake Tahoe and western Nevada region that could linger for the next couple days, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.

Warmer weather and less smoke may be in store for the Carson City area this week, along with breezy conditions as a ridge of high pressure is forecast to bring sunny skies and light winds heading into the first weekend of October.

CARSON CITY — High school students graduating from a Nevada high school in spring 2021 and planning to attend Western Nevada College in fall 2021 must apply for the Nevada Promise Scholarship no later than Oct. 31, 2020.

CARSON CITY — With the start of fall, the Nevada Department of Transportation is preparing to keep state roads clear when winter snow flies. NDOT is hiring temporary highway maintenance workers, including snow plow and anti-icing operations and assisting in highway emergency response, among other duties.

Hello fellow anglers. Just got back from Oregon a few weeks ago and the world’s getting a little crazy. It's now fall, and it feels like we missed out on most of summer, between COVID-19 and wildfires, we might have to start doing some praying to get back to some sense of normalcy. We encountered 7 wildfires on our journey.

The next Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting will be held on Thursday, Sept. 17 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

Three were arrested Friday for suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and other alleged offenses following an incident involving a firearm that happened at a Woodside Drive residence and a shot fired into a sidewalk on South Curry Street, according to a Carson City sheriff's deputy booking report.

As the fall season nears and days become shorter, the Nevada Division of State Parks is adjusting the hours of operation for the boat launch sites at both Sand Harbor and Cave Rock Lake Tahoe Nevada State Parks.
