Financial aid boost: WNC has money to help students pay for college

On November 4, 2014, nearly 80% of Nevada’s voters said NO to Question 3, The Education Initiative, which was a margins tax based on a business’s gross receipts. Just 72 days later, during his State of the State address on January 15, 2015, Governor Brian Sandoval proposed a $7.3 Billion budget to be funded with roughly $1 Billion in new taxes.

The forums will present both candidates for races and ballot proposition questions that will be on the ballot for the general election on November 4. The public is invited to attend these forums, which will be held at the Carson City Community Center, Sierra Room. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the forum begins at 6 each evening.

Consumers will pay this tax through the increased cost of goods and services we purchase, things like Gas, Milk and Childcare.

Local Companies Recognized at the NNDA Pioneer Awards

This signature event also saw the largest attendance for this event in NNDA history with over 340 celebrating these announcements. In addition to this annual recognition businesses were selected in 9 different categories. For six weeks NNDA collected over 50 nominees in those categories with the winners being announced at the Pioneer Awards Banquet.
Carson City, Lyon County agencies make United Way grant list

The Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada, Friends in Service Helping (FISH) Community Chest, Healthy Communities Coalition, Central Lyon Youth Connections, Lyon County Human Services were named as grant recipients through various partnerships, for the 2012-13 fiscal year.
In all, more than $1.3 million will be distributed to Northern Nevada agencies, said United Way spokesman Scott Walquist.
Carson Judge Will Rule Later On Challenge To Teacher-Backed Margin Tax Petition
