In as little as two semesters, the nine students earned the Siemens Certified Mechatronic Systems certification.

Smoke wafting into Carson City skies from open permit burning and Tahoe controlled fire

A light smoke that began moving into Carson City early Saturday evening may be a result of controlled burn operations on the west shore of Lake Tahoe or open permit burning within the city limits, according to dispatch and the U.S. Forest Service.

“We had 600 people in the parking lot we had to turn away last year,” said promoter and livestock provider Manuel Souza. “We had little kids crying because we had no place to put them. It was terrible.”

Harry Reid won't seek re-election

Nevada Senator Harry Reid announced today he will retire from the Senate and will not seek re-election in 2016. The five-term Democrat from Searchlight, Nev., had brushed off questions that he would be leaving the Senate but an exercise-related accident in January appears to have contributed to the decision.

Column: Attention! May I Have Your Attention Please?

In my opinion, a parent’s consistent and regular positive attention to and engagement with their child is the single most important aspect of the parent – child relationship. Nothing says “I love you” or “you are important to me” more than that one on one time. It is the cornerstone of attachment and bonding between the child and parent. That positive attention says to the child “you are safe and secure”, “I am here for you”, “I value you”.
