Dinner Meeting

Carson City Mint 150th anniversary, fitness events, classic film showing and more Tuesday

Heading into Tuesday, the capital city will celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Carson City Mint with events throughout the day. Other activities include a morning and evening walk hosted by Muscle Powered, a dinner fundraiser for the Roman family at Pizza Factory, a community dinner and meeting invite to the Order of Eastern Star, a showing at the BAC of the 1941 film classic "The Lady Eve" and a concert featuring the Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus with violin soloist Elizabeth Pitcairn at Shepherd-Sierra Lutheran Church. Life of Julia Bulette featured at Leisure Hour Club dinner meeting

Members of the Carson City Leisure Hour Club will learn of the loves and losses of Julia Bulette, renowned resident of Virginia City, at their dinner meeting on Wednesday, October 18.

Bulette’s murder began a manhunt that last over a year and resulted in the arrest, trial, and the April 24, 1869 execution of John Millian.

In what was the largest gathering of people in Nevada up to that time, 3,000 to 4,000 people were present at the hanging.

Leisure Hour Club Recognizes Carson City Historical Society with Donation

Accepting the check for the Society were President Gary Cain along with members Paula Cannon, Dona Spencer, Debbie Lane and Gary Yoakum. Navy League Speaker from Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center

Children’s Museum Recognized with Leisure Hour Club Donation

Nevada State Prison Preservation Society Recognized

Recognizing the Nevada State Prison Preservation Society’s exemplary efforts to protect and restore the Nevada State Prison, a historic Nevada cultural and architectural treasure, the Leisure Hour Club of Carson City recently presented the group with a $500 donation in support of its efforts.

Nevada State Prison Comes Alive for the Leisure Hour Club

Local Gem Artist Tobin Rupert Shares Expertise with the Leisure Hour Club

Members of the Leisure Hour Club will share in the gem and jewelry creation expertise of Tobin Rupert at their dinner meeting on Wednesday, March 16. Tobin, a member of the Washoe tribe, is a longtime resident of Carson City having grown up in Northern Nevada and receiving a Business Management degree from UNR. His gem and jewelry design business is located at 2800 S. Curry Street.
