CARSON CITY — The Stewart Indian School Cultural Center and Museum announced Thursday it is reopening to the public on Tuesday, Jan. 19, the day after the nation celebrates Martin Luther King Day.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. The Nevada Day Golf Tournament in remembrance of Mayor Bob Crowell will be held at Silver Oak Ranch Golf Course on Saturday. Dozens of fundraisers, including the Benson’s Feed 4 Paws 4-H group, will be scattered throughout the Carson City and Gardnerville areas. Combined with live music and several dinner specials, the state capital will be buzzing with excitement! Read on for more information.

To kick off our Dia de los Muertos celebration this year I will lead a craft making Facebook Live event at 10 a.m. Saturday as part of the Nevada State Museum Family Fun Saturday. We will be making tissue paper flowers that are used to decorate Dia de los Muertos Altars.

CARSON CITY, Nev. — The Stewart Indian School Cultural Center & Museum will reopen to the public on Monday, July 20, thanks to a generous donation from the family of a former Stewart Indian School principal. Opened in January and closed to the public in March because of the current health crisis, the Cultural Center faced severe budget cuts.

For the first time, the general public can get a glimpse of life at Stewart Indian School, 130 years after the government boarding school opened in Carson City and 40 years after it was closed.

Events include the Silver and Snowflake Festival of Lights, the 24th annual Parade of Lights in Gardnerville, the annual Project Empty Bowls dinner held at the Carson Mall, a Holiday Crawl in downtown Carson City and much more! Silver City Arts group's Saturday, Dec. 7 holiday event from noon to 4pm includes music by cellists Diane Kotik and Becky Crowe, a holiday craft activity for all ages led by Erich and Chali Haugen, and complimentary sweets.
