Bank robbery reported at Nevada State Bank on South Carson Street

We have received a report of a bank robbery this morning at the South Carson Street branch of Nevada State Bank. Authorities are looking for a white female subject, late 20s, long brown hair, wearing a dark hoodie, blue jeans and a camo-pattern hat. She was last seen on crossing Snyder Ave. on foot after the robbery. There is also a report that the subject may have left a light blue truck behind after the robbery. We will have more details as they become available.

Carson City Road Report for October 10-16

Beginning Tuesday, October 11, and continuing through Thursday, October 13, Saliman Road will be closed in the southbound direction between Fairview Drive and Colorado Street. One lane of traffic will remain open in the northbound direction.

New texting while driving law results in felony arrest

A Carson City Sheriff's deputy driving down North Carson Street Thursday afternoon spotted a driver texting while driving, a violation of the new law that went into effect Oct. 1.

According to the arrest report, the driver, Gilberto Paredes-Estrada, 27, of Carson City, was found to have a misdemeanor warrant for his arrest. He also allegedly gave the deputy a false ID, a felony. He was arrested and put on Immigration Customs Enforcement hold.

Nevada Day theme celebrates the Silver State's 'Great Outdoors'

It only takes four days to celebrate statehood in Nevada. The Silver State knows how to party! The annual Carson City Nevada Day events will observe the 147th year since joining the union, with the theme, “Nevada's Great Outdoors,” Oct. 27-30, 2011.

A four-day celebration of the Silver State's admission to the Union in 1864 will be celebrated the last weekend in October in Nevada's state capitol of Carson City.

Seeking volunteer for Carson City Airport Authority board

The Carson City Board of Supervisors is seeking applications from persons interested in serving approximately ten to sixteen hours per month on the Carson City Airport Authority. The Airport Authority is a 7 member board that oversees all matters pertaining to the Carson City airport.

There is a position open for a four year term that will expire 10/2015. The Board of Supervisors will interview and appoint qualified persons to the board. There is one opening:

Photos: Candlelight vigil held for IHOP shooting victims

A candlelight vigil was held for the victims of the shooting this morning at the IHOP restaurant on South Carson Street. The unofficial vigil was held from around 8:30 p.m. to around 9:15 p.m. at the fallen soldier's memorial at the State Capitol grounds, with a couple of hundred people in attendance.

Carson City IHOP shooting: Gunman named, four confirmed dead, eight wounded

5:30 p.m. Update: Press conference concludes with a few more details. Officials state that shooter Eduardo Sencion had two other weapons at his vehicle, another rifle and a handgun. Neither were used in the incident. The FBI stated that there doesn't appear to be any connection to terrorism.

Sencion was born in Mexico, and had a U.S. passport.

Three victims were killed inside the restaurant, two male National Guard members, and a civilian woman. Two female and one male National Guard members were wounded. Ten of the victims were shot inside the restaurant, while one woman standing outside next to a motorcycle was shot and wounded.

Sheriff Kenny Furlong said they are still working to determine the shooter's motive, saying it is too early to tell if the National Guard members were intentionally targeted.

3:30 p.m. Update: Carson City Sheriff Kenny Furlong released the name of the person suspected of shooting 11 people at the IHOP restaurant on South Carson Street this morning.

The person's name is Eduardo Sencion, 32, of Carson City. He allegedly shot himself after shooting 11 people, and died about two hours later.

Furlong said he works at his family's business in South Lake Tahoe, and that he might have had some "mental issues."

Three of the 11 victims have died, including two uniformed National Guard members. Three of the wounded were also National Guardsmen.

The other victim who died was a civilian female, according to Furlong.

The investigation into why Sencion carried out the shooting is still underway.

Carson City IHOP Shooting: Gunman named; four dead, eight wounded

Update 3:00 p.m.: There are now four people reported dead from the shooting this morning. Two victims were uniformed National Guardsmen. One of the dead is the shooter, who killed himself. The other deceased victim was a civilian female. Eight more persons were wounded, including three more National Guardsmen.

Shooter's name is Eduardo Sencion, of Carson City.

2 p.m. update
Four people are dead, including the gunman who shot himself and died later at the hospital. Two of the dead where a man and women in the National Guard, who were in uniform.

There is a press conference scheduled for 3 p.m.

A few minutes before 9 a.m., a lone gunman armed with automatic AK-47-type assault rifle drives up to the IHOP on South Carson Street, and begins shooting in the parking lot. Locals BBQ owner Ralph Swagler said he saw the man drive up, and then empty a clip of ammo outside the IHOP, then reloads and goes inside, where he fires more shots very rapidly and exits within a few seconds.

Swagler said the gunman then saw his son locking the door of their business and opened fire at them. He also allegedly fired shots at the H&R Block office next door. Sometime after, the gunman shot himself, and died later at the hospital.

Carson City woman arrested for allegedly stealing cameras, DVD players

An unemployed Carson City woman was arrested Wednesday afternoon after she was allegedly caught walking out of a store with two digital cameras in her purse, and and DVD player hidden in her clothing.

According to the arrest report, Shannon Gatlin, 28, was stopped by a store security officer in the 700 block of Old Clear Creek Road after he spotted the suspect removing the items from their packaging and hiding them, and trying to walk outside without paying for them. Gatlin allegedly admitted to several other thefts at the store over the last few weeks.

One lane will be closed in each direction on the Carson City Freeway between the US 50 and Fairview Drive interchanges due to maintenance.

Work will continue on a NDOT project to mill and overlay a section of US 395 from the junction with US 50 (Spooner) in Carson City to south of Waterloo Lane in Gardnerville. There will be nightly lane closures occurring from 8:00 p.m. through 6:00 a.m.

Carson City man arrested for allegedly beating, strangling woman

Carson City Sheriff deputies arrested Terry David Vickers, 45, Thursday evening after a woman reported that he had beat and strangled her into unconsciousness, and assaulted her with a screwdriver.

According to the arrest report, the victim told deputies that Vickers began the assault Wednesday night when he slapped her at a restaurant on North Carson Street. She said after leaving the restaurant she made contact with some friends and left with them, not returning to the motel room she shared with Vickers until Thursday morning.
