While Carson City has never had Black Friday tramplings, Black Friday—along with Thanksgiving evening—have often been a busy and popular shopping day for capital city residents.

In recent years more and more people are opting to shop online, and it appears this year that sentiment has only increased.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. Virginia City will kick off its Candy Cane Express and Train of Lights on Friday with all day train rides. Small Business Saturday will begin in downtown Carson City with COVID-19 restrictions put in place. Combined with pool tournaments at Bulldog Billiards and live music at Living the Good Life, the state capital will be buzzing with excitement! Read on for more information.

Crowds have often flocked to the major corporate retailers in Carson City for the best deals of the season, and in recent years, stores have begun to open earlier and earlier for a leg up, breaching into Thanksgiving day. However this year, many stores are finally closing their doors on Thanksgiving Day, and more bargain hunters are turning to online deals for their holiday shopping.

Once the dishes were done from Thanksgiving dinner, shoppers kicked off the shopping weekend immediately and headed to stores and online retailers to take advantage of deals and discounts over the long weekend and Cyber Monday. In the Silver State, the Retail Association of Nevada estimates that more than 1.7 million people spent a total of $638.9 million on gifts, decorations and other merchandise over the five-day period.

Christmas is less than a month away and many local families need help providing presents to their children.
To help fill this need, the Associated Students of Western Nevada at Western Nevada College are leading a Toys for Tots collection drive through Dec. 20.

While it isn't quite Christmas-weather yet, I'm assuming at some point it will get cold and we can finally get into the upcoming holiday spirit! When that time comes, there are a ton of great Santa-related events going on in Carson City for you and the little ones to enjoy.
