On a roll, Nevada hoops team hosts birthday bash tonight

A four-game stretch of home games to open the season concludes tonight – coach Eric Musselman’s birthday — when the Nevada men’s basketball team hosts Division I newcomer California Baptist. Reno man wins tenth rock drilling title at Nevada Day competition in Carson City

Perennial champion Tom Donovan of Reno claimed his second consecutive title Saturday at the single-jack rock drilling world championship held at the Max Casino parking lot during the Nevada Day Parade in Carson City.

CARSON CITY — As Nevada plans to celebrate its birthday this weekend, the Nevada Day Powwow aims to highlight the heritage that helped shape the state. While it will feature American Indian dancers from across the country and Canada, it will encompass more than native traditions.

With a ‘Touch of Grey,’ Bob Weir opens tour in Reno

Bob Weir, 71, threw his own birthday bash Tuesday night in the Biggest Little City in the World, opening a 19-concert tour at Reno’s Grand Sierra Resort and Casino with the Wolf Bros (Don Was and Jay Lane). Following a two-set, 16-song performance, the musicians delivered a fitting encore — “Touch of Grey.”

Posting a rehearsal photo on Facebook shortly before the show, Weir acknowledged fans’ support: “Thank you for all of the kind birthday wishes!” After the performance, he noted: “And just like that we’re off and running… Cheers to the biggest little city in the world!”

A 52-year-old South Lake Tahoe man was arrested in the area of North Curry and West Spear streets for felony suspicion of third DUI, driving on a revoked license, and following too close, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

Reno Aces abducted by 51’s on getaway day

Reno Aces mascot Archie’s 10th birthday party was spoiled Sunday when Las Vegas beat the stuffing out of his team.

The flying objects over the Biggest Little City were identified as baseballs launched by the 51’s, who sent the Aces out of town with a 15-6 defeat and their first series loss since July 3. The Aces are en route to New Orleans and won’t be back until Aug. 1.
