This beautiful weather is no April Fool’s joke, so get out and enjoy the sunshine. Ascent Runs begins their half marathon series today with a race through Carson Canyons, and it is sure to get your heart pumping. The Downtown Business Association wants to see you at today’s wine walk. Once you’re around Telegraph Street, you’ll see some throwbacks from a by-gone era courtesy of Naughty Tea Mistresses, the First Nevada Cavalry, and more.

CASI Bingo guarantees a $1000 pay day on Sunday!

Sunday is going to be a big day at our Carson City Senior Center! Carson Animal Services Initiative is hosting our monthly CASI Bingo, but this month there is a guaranteed BIG payday! Buy-in is $10 with additional packs for $5. CASI ball and other special games are $1 each. If the CASI cash ball isn't won during regular play, CASI will hold a special game with a payout of $1000!

The Kiwanis Club just pulled off their big annual Easter Egg Hunt and is always looking for civic minded community members to join: they meet every Thursday at Casino Fandango. If beer brewing is an interest, then check out the monthly meeting of the 395 Brewers at Just Brew It.

Happy Thursday, Carson City. Spring break begins today and the sunny afternoon will probably be perfect for some kite-flying. School’s out, but the learning continues at the Nevada State Museum. This month’s installment of the Francis Humphrey Lecture Series focuses on the history of the U.S.S. Nevada. Music is a great way to slip into the weekend: check out the offerings at Living the Good Life, Glen Eagles, or Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint.

CASI Bingo

Join CASI bingo as we celebrate spring and a belated Easter. The CASI ball prize has grown to $1,000 and it has to be won this month! That means if the CASI ball prize is not won during the regular play a special blackout bingo game will be held at the end of the day and the winner will receive the prize. (In case of a tie it will be split) Cost for the special game will be $1 per sheet. If you haven’t played CASI bingo yet a $1000 prize is a great reason to give it a try.

Games are at 911 Beverly Drive, the Carson City Senior Citizens Center.

Prize list grows for Carson Middle School's annual Chili Bingo Night

Let someone else take care of Sunday breakfast. The Elks Club’s monthly pancake breakfast starts at 8:30 a.m., but they’ll start serving bloody marys at 7 a.m. if you need some hair of the dog. Go for a strike at Carson Lanes with their Breakfast and Bowl special. The Capital City Community Band welcomes area elementary school choirs onstage during today’s free concert, A Salute to Young Musicians, at the Community Center.

We have a wine walk weekend coming up and you won’t want to miss it. The ground-breaking on the downtown construction is Monday, so downtown will never look quite the same again. Those interested about the schedule or process won’t want to miss the ‘Pre-construction’ meeting with Public Works at the Sheriff’s office. Spend the evening in our historic downtown devouring sushi at Kim Lee’s, sampling the chef’s creations at Mystique, or enjoying a cocktail at the Carson Cigar Company. Enjoy guest vocalist Madeline Eastman as they present something ‘On the Jazzy Side.’

The International Film Weekend has returned for the third year and brings a bit of multiculturalism with it. It’s Presidents Day weekend with a Valentine’s Day cherry on top. There is still time for some shopping if you’re looking for something for your special someone. Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery hosts its annual Champagne and Jewelry party Saturday and offers some amazing hand-crafted bling for your sweetheart. Carson Mall is another great bet for last minute gifts. Several crafters, vendors, and shops make it easy to find something unique. The annual Feast of Chocolate returns to the Plaza Event Center; raising funds for scholarships has never tasted so good.

Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 7: Things to do around Carson City

Are you ready for some football? Maybe you’re just a fan of the commercials. Either way, today is the big game between the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers. For those who aren’t a pigskin fan, consider playing a few rounds of bingo to benefit the Carson Animal Shelter Initiative.

When Shirley Ling moved to Carson City 13 years ago, one of her first stops was to check out what activities were offered at the senior center. She found friendship and recreation, playing some pool here and there. But about six years ago, she found her real niche, playing table tennis.
