Even more than Gone with the Wind, it was the most revolutionary film. It was radically different from everything before it, and it influenced all film after it more than any other work. Yet, nothing made since 1968 is really like it, either.

The Right Stuff: We Need a Lot More of It Now
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Wed, 05/04/2016 - 8:22amWhen we’ve had enough of politics and politicians, we need a good fun exhilarating movie like The Right Stuff. After a long hard week, take Saturday evening to watch this rollicking 1983 classic with great casting, script, directing, settings, performances, action, music, editing and themes. Plus hot planes and some explosions.
There are many great aspects of the film, but we want to note one we find profoundly appealing. Something the world needs these days.

The exclusion (before adjusting for taxable gifts) is currently $5,430,000. That can be left without a federal death tax. Some states, about 19 of them, do have estate or inheritance taxes, but California, Florida and New York join Nevada in not having a state death tax.

Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Mon, 09/12/2011 - 10:07amThe sci-fi horror film "Apollo 18," currently playing at the Casino Fandango multiplex in Carson City and elsewhere, is a strange bird of a movie. The premise is that while NASA claimed to have scrubbed Apollo 18, it was actually rescheduled as a secret mission to plant Soviet ICBM detectors on the Moon.
