Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the second annual Evening with Divas in Carson City, a Día de Muertos celebration at the Nevada State Museum, Nevada Artists Association’s 40th anniversary celebration, paranormal ghost investigations in Virginia City, a pie baking contest in Gardnerville and much more!

If you live in or around the capital region on Nevada Day, you know all too well how chaotic Carson City can become, with tens of thousands of people flooding in to celebrate the anniversary of Nevada Statehood. This year however, this well-loved Nevada tradition made its debut around the world, courtesy of the National Grassroots Broadcasting Network.

On Wednesday, Nov. 6, the Capital City Arts Initiative will present a public talk, "Nevada’s Ancient Rock Art: Art for All Times" by archeologist Pat Barker, Ph.D. The event is part of CCAI’s ongoing Nevada Neighbors speakers’ series.

Going into the eve of Halloween, teeth will be chattering as the weather calls for sunny skies but with a chill in the air and daytime temperatures in the upper 40s around the capital city. Events around town Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2019 include a Halloween costume walk at Riverview Park in Carson City, a "trick or trunk" event in Dayton, art showings, storytelling at the Carson City Library and more.

Heading into Tuesday, expect continued sunny skies and cool temperatures. Events for the day include a morning walk and evening hike with Muscle Powered, Fall job fairs hosted by Nevada JobConnect and the Carson Nugget, the 3rd annual "BOO-nanza" celebration at the Carson City Community Center and library, a Relay for Life fundraiser at Firehouse Subs and more.

Artists from Carson City, Minden and Gardnerville will be featured at the 25th annual Northern Nevada Artisan Show and Sale this Friday and Saturday, Nov. 1-2 in Reno.

The event’s 25th anniversary will be dedicated to the memory of Jim McCormick, UNR Art Department chair, artist, curator and one of the founders of the show. Admission is free.

With the wildly festive Nevada Day weekend now behind us, a busy week is ahead as we begin to close out October and prepare to celebrate Halloween in the capital city. Activities Monday include a lunch discussion with the director of the Toiyabe Chapter of the Sierra Club, art showings, West Coast swing dancing and more.

The Fall visiting artist with the Resident Artist Program in Silver City is Allison Rasmussen of Carson City.

Valedictorian of the 2018 graduating class at Argent Preparatory Academy, Rasmussen studied art at Western Nevada College through their early college entry program and completed her Associate of Arts degree at 18.

Counting down the hours until the Nevada Day weekend celebration begins, we're heading into Thursday, Oct. 24, 2019 with sunny skies in the forecast through Sunday. Thursday opens the first of the four-day annual RSVP Nevada Day Carnival at Mills Park with $1 ride family night hosted by Carson City Toyota. Other activities around the capital city include a Muscle Powered afternoon hike, art showings, library activities, a gold and silver rush presentation at the Nevada State Museum and more.

We're days away from our celebration of statehood and the weather around the capital city couldn't be more, well, Nevada-like with daytime highs near 70 and sunny skies. Carson City area activities ahead for Wednesday, Oct. 23 feature an economic roundup presented by the Northern Nevada Development Authority at Casino Fandango, Carson Tahoe's annual "Spooktacular" family event, Firehouse Subs will host our local Search and Rescue for a dinner fundraiser; Sierra Nevada Journeys and Nature Conservancy will present family STEM night in Genoa, plus art showings and more. Joyce Pike has studied under artists Sergei Bongart, Viona Anne Kendell and Hal Reed and has taught at Valley College in Los Angeles, the Art League of Los Angeles, the Scottsdale School of Art in Arizona, and has taught workshops throughout the world.

While haze from nearby Sierra fires may linger some, we're looking at another pleasant fall day around the capital city heading into Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2019. Events locally include a ribbon cutting and outdoor moving showing at the new Schulz Ranch Park, workshops, a women's safety meeting, a pumpkin patch for kids at Carson Mall, plus art showings and public talks. After hours it will be toasts, cheers and business networking all around at the Dayton Taphouse. Enjoy the day.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Department of Transportation has begun installation of new “Welcome to Nevada” monuments on U.S. 395 at two entrances into the state.

Heading into Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2019, it will be a busy day ahead around the capital city including a Carson City Chamber of Commerce luncheon with Nevada's chief economist, a GOP Women's Club luncheon with Nevada State Senator James Settelmeyer, Sierra Lutheran will host its 7th and 8th Grade Visitation Day, plus a morning walk, evening hike with Muscle Powered, archery at Centennial Park, art night at the library and more. The Brewery Arts Center in Carson City is hosting the Celtic Music Series for the 2019-2020 season. The series hosts seven performances by regional, national, and international Celtic musicians from October through May.

Going into Monday, Oct. 14, 2019, we're looking at continued sunny skies and a high near 70. The first day of the work week is deadline day to get nominations in for the Carson City Carson City 2019 Mayor's Arts Awards. Events around the capital city include a luncheon with Lt. Governor Kate Marshall, the second of a six-week standup comedy class, art showings, West Coast swing dancing and more.

On Wednesday, October 16, the Capital City Arts Initiative (CCAI) will present a public talk, “Why Did You Choose Justin Favela?” by Nevada Museum of Art’s curator, JoAnne Northrup. The event is part of CCAI’s ongoing Nevada Neighbors speakers’ series and will take place at 5:30pm at the Brick, 108 E Proctor Street, Carson City.

There will be an informal reception for Northrup preceding the event at 5pm. No tickets needed; the public is cordially invited.
