NV Energy is urging customers to conserve electricity Tuesday and Wednesday between 2 and 9 p.m. in order to help offset energy supply issues caused by record-breaking heat throughout the Western United States. The utility has advised Lyon County that residents can expect rolling brownouts or blackouts starting today into tomorrow due to high temperatures.

Carson City is the new home for Salvation Army Captains Dora and Mark Stearns and 17-year old son Adam. They expressed joy to be in the type of city where your neighbor comes over to welcome you the morning after you arrive, something this couple has never experienced in previous postings.

As demand soars for watercraft inspections at Lake Tahoe, agencies preventing the introduction of aquatic invasive species into the lake’s pristine waters caution boaters to expect delays and to be prepared to change boating plans through the July Fourth weekend.

On Friday, June 26, Lake Tahoe is entering the next phase of watercraft inspections for the prevention of aquatic invasive species and opening for all boats by appointment, agencies announced.

Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak notified state employees Thursday of proposed plans to address the projected Fiscal Year 2021 budget shortfall.

Preliminary estimates indicate approximately a $900 million General Fund shortfall, when combined with the Distributive School Account, the revenue shortfall increases up to $1.3 billion in Fiscal Year 2021. The estimated revenue shortfall represents a significant percentage of the state’s overall $4.5 billion operating appropriations for the fiscal year.

The Nevada Bankers Association is joining other local business organizations in pushing for a more simplified and streamlined process to help small businesses comply with the loan forgiveness requirements of the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP).

CARSON CITY — Beginning Monday, June 15, 2020, the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles will reopen all branch offices in the Silver State.

My neighbor Mark, now known as “Chip” after Chip Gaines from “Fixer Upper” on HGTV, acquired his new moniker after building an amazing fence to enclose his wife’s garden (with her help of course!). Since we have major animal challenges in our neighborhood — ground squirrels, rabbits, deer and bears — a strong defense system is essential for successful vegetable production. The impressive garden fence that "Chip" built should keep all the critters out.

Conditions in Northern Nevada have changed dramatically over the past few months due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But, one thing has remained consistent: Carson City Toyota and the Campagni Auto Group’s commitment to this community including students and higher education at Western Nevada College.

For more than 15 years, Lisa Davis served as the DARE officer for Carson City. Her last day is Thursday as she and her husband Bob will be relocating to Oregon. She leaves Carson City with many accomplishments in providing children guidance and away from falling into the trap of alcohol and drugs.

The community theatre companies in Carson City and Douglas County, along with our local performance venues, have created a coalition with the goal of navigating the challenges specific to our local theatre community brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hello Carson City! It has been a while since we’ve had a Pet of the Week, which isn’t necessarily bad! Our shelters have been relatively empty thanks to the shutdown.

CARSON CITY — Gov. Steve Sisolak declared a state of fiscal emergency on Monday arising from the strain the COVID-19 pandemic has put on public services in the State of Nevada.

Carson High School's Future Business Leaders of America claim five State Championships as well as 40 top 10 awards in spite of pandemic. CHS FBLA students just finished competing in the Nevada State Business Leadership Conference. Originally, the event was scheduled to be held in Reno, but had to be held digitally due to Covid-19.

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) has announced a phased approach to boating that discourages out-of-area visitation as part of state and local coordination on recreation guidelines for Lake Tahoe this season.

The Aviation Roundup Air Show is a community-oriented event that strives to bring an exciting and affordable family event to Douglas County.

The personnel and financial assets required to produce and host such a show are significant, and the air show would not be possible without the outstanding sponsors and amazing volunteers that work with us every year. We thank them again for making this show possible over the past years.

Sgt. Benjamin Jenkins was killed in the line of duty on March 27, 2020 on US-93 and White Pine county mile marker 106 near Ely. The following is a statement released on behalf of the Jenkins family:
