They include several major health care initiatives — including a ban on surprise emergency room bills, a tax on vaping products and a requirement that hospitals use patients’ preferred names and pronouns — as well as laws that will benefit employees, including paid sick leave.

Five motherless bear cubs now at Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care
Submitted by editor on Fri, 08/26/2016 - 9:38amThe three bear cubs from Yosemite that arrived in South Lake Tahoe after their mother was killed on July 4 now have company. Two new cubs have arrived, one from Santa Maria and one from Azusa, Calif.
All five bear cubs are being housed at Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care until January or February, once they are big enough to go back into the wild.
Flea from chipmunk at Fallen Leaf Lake tests positive for plague

The flea was sampled from one of three rodents trapped in the Fallen Leaf Campground area during routine plague surveillance May 18, 2016.

El Dorado County health officials were notified Wednesday by the California Department of Public Health that the squirrel tested positive for plague.

Two more chipmunks test positive for plague in South Lake Tahoe area
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 10/26/2012 - 3:25pmThe El Dorado County Department of Environmental Health was notified this week by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) that two additional chipmunks in the South Lake Tahoe area have tested positive for plague. One of the chipmunks was found in the Tallac Historic Site area and one was near the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) Taylor Creek Visitor Center.
Carson City man faces drug charges, blames daughter for narcotics found in his room

Thomas William Hinsen, 51, was arrested Thursday. He faces a felony charge of maintaining a home that is known for drug activity next to a school, possession of a prescription drug without a script, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is being held on $23,632 bail.
