The American Association of University Women, Capital Branch is pleased to announce that Clarissa Muñoz, a student at Carson High, and Annie Sanchez, who attends Dayton High, are the 2013 recipients of AAUW scholarships. Clarissa will graduate in June and plans to attend UNR majoring in pharmaceuticals. Annie will graduate from Dayton High in May and will begin her college at WNC. From there she plans to earn a BS as a nutritionist and then attend medical school.

14th Annual Feast of Chocolate set for Saturday at Carson City Plaza Hotel

It's almost here! The 14th Annual Feast of Chocolate will be Saturday Feb. 9, 12 – 3 p.m. This all-you-can-eat full buffet of chocolate treats is presented by the American Association of University Women, Capital Branch. Proceeds of the event benefit local scholarships and the AAUW Educational Opportunities Fund.

This year’s FOC will be held at the Plaza Hotel and Conference Center, 801 S. Carson St, Carson City. Tickets are $13 and $8 at the door, or purchase early and pay just $10 for adults and $5 for children. Call (775) 267-4515 for tickets or information.

AAUW Capital Branch Awards Scholarships

The American Association of University Women, Capital Branch is pleased to announce the recipients of this year’s scholarships.

Mary Longero, graduating from Carson High, plans to attend the University of Nevada, Reno to study Nutritional Science, which will put her on the pre-med track.

Chyanne Corley, a senior at Dayton High, will begin her studies at Western Nevada College where she will complete an Associate Degree. She will then continue her education at the University of Portland majoring in Psychology.

AAUW Installs New Officers

The American Association of University Women, Capital Branch recently installed new officers for 2012-13. They are as pictured: Lillian Hack, President; Jane Johnson, President-Elect; Susan Klekar, Assistant Treasurer; Lin Nary, Secretary. Phyllis Westfall officiated at the Installation. Not pictured is Treasurer Carolyn Harris. AAUW, a nationwide network of more than 100,000 members and donors, advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research. The Capital Branch does fundraising each year to present scholarships to local college-bound women.

The 13th Annual Feast of Chocolate, presented by the Capital Branch of the American Association of University Women, will be held this year on February 11 from 11 am until 2 pm, at the Carson City Plaza Hotel Conference Center at the corner of 9th and Plaza Streets. This is an all-you-can-eat full buffet of delectable chocolate treats! Tickets at the door are $13 for adults and $8 for children 12 and under. AAUW presents scholarships to two Carson women

The American Association of University Women, Capital Branch is pleased to announce that Tania Villanueva and Alexis Fallon are the 2011 recipients of Branch scholarships. Both young women are currently attending UNR.
Each year the Capital Branch presents scholarships to graduating high school seniors. The money is raised through annual Holiday Pecan Sales and A Feast of Chocolate, which is held each February. The women of the Branch thank all who assisted them by participating in these local fund raisers.

New Officers Named to AAUW Capital Branch

New officers for the American Association of University Women Capital Branch were installed Thursday evening, May 12. They are: Lillian Hack, president; Jane Johnson, VP Programs; Carolyn Harris, treasurer; Staci Denham, Membership chair; and Lin Nary, Secretary. Phyllis Westfall officiated.

Books Meant to Inspire Donated to Library by AAUW

Jane Johnson, Program Chair of the American Association of University Women Capital Branch, presents a set of Cool Careers books to Amber Sady, the Carson City Library Youth Services Librarian. These books were created by Sally Ride Science and donated by AAUW to interest girls and boys in today's exciting careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Feast of Chocolate

A full buffet of chocolate treats, featuring the creations of students of the award winning Carson High Culinary Arts Program will be featured at this year's Feast of Chocolate. This is the 12th annual fundraiser for local scholarships and the AAUW Educational Opportunities Fund. Also, raffle prizes will be awarded. Come enjoy the fun!
