League of Women Voters Election Forum

The League of Women Voters of Northern Nevada, in conjunction with Sierra Nevada Forums and American Association of University Women, has announced a series of election forums to be held Sept. 22 through Sept. 30 in Carson City. The forums will present both candidates for races and ballot proposition questions that will be on the ballot for the general election on November 4. The public is invited to attend these forums, which will be held at the Carson City Community Center, Sierra Room. Doors open at 5:30 and the forum begins at 6:00 each evening.

Filing kicks off for Nevada offices

State Controller Kim Wallin was the first of several state politicians to file for office yesterday in Carson City, officially kicking off the 2014 election season.

Filing dates announced for 2014 election

Candidate filing for non-judicial offices on the 2014 ballot will take place between 8 a.m. on Monday, March 3 through 5 p.m. on Friday, March 14. Secretary of State Ross Miller encourages candidates filing at the Secretary of State's office to schedule appointments in advance with Elections Division filing officers in Carson City or Las Vegas.

Douglas Republicans Hold Highly Successful Lincoln-Reagan Celebration

Sunday evening, Feb. 16th, the Douglas County Republican Central Committee (DCRCC) held their annual Lincoln-Reagan Dinner. This year's theme was Nevada's Sesquicentennial, the 150th anniversary of Nevada's admission to the Union. The event--with the largest attendance in many years--was a sellout. The Carson Valley Inn swiftly accommodated our surge of walk-ins, key to the success of the evening.

Even the wise, kind and responsible Disney nanny character would face a daunting task were she presented with the continuing public policy fiascos in our troubled town. Mary handled her unbridled charges with aplomb and urgency. Many of our elected and appointed officials need to employ these traits.

It seems like a rare opportunity these days to be able to cast a vote in an election and feel good about your selection. Most of the time I wind up voting against the other person as a choice between the lesser of two evils. As a result, I believe most Americans are unhappy at one time or another about some facet of their government, whether local, state or national.
