State Lawmaker Says GOP Poised To Win Control Of Senate In 2012, Democrat Disagrees
Submitted by Nevada News Bureau on Wed, 01/04/2012 - 4:58pmCARSON CITY – Republican state Senator Michael Roberson said today he expects the GOP to retake control of the Senate in the 2012 general election, citing the quality of candidates recruited for two key Clark County races.
His optimism was countered by Sen. Mo Denis, D-Las Vegas, who said he is confident Democrats will maintain control of the Senate come Nov. 7.

Nevada Campaign Reports Now To Be Filed Electronically For Better Public Access

State lawmakers say they have not heard of any major concerns with the new requirements from their colleagues.

More Than 2,300 Nevada Nonprofits Lose Tax Exempt Status With IRS

The revocations run the gamut, from the Edgewood Tahoe Mens Club to the Lovelock Alfalfa Seed Growers. Most of the revocations occurred in 2010 but were just posted by the agency last year.
NHP continues to investigate Lake Tahoe accident involving CHP patrol vehicle

The accident happened between Lake Village and Elks Point Road and was reported at 12:44 a.m. Sunday morning, said NHP Trooper Chuck Allen. The pedestrian, whose identity has not been released pending notification of family, died at the scene of the accident.

Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sun, 01/01/2012 - 2:57amUPDATED 11:30AM: A 21-year-old Walnut Creek, Calif. man was struck and killed by a California Highway Patrol vehicle early Sunday morning, New Year's Day, on Highway 50 near Stateline at Lake Tahoe, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
The accident happened between Lake Village and Elks Point Road and was reported around 12:40 a.m. Sunday morning, said NHP Troopers Mike Edgell and Chuck Allen. The pedestrian, whose identity has not been released pending notification of family, died at the scene of the accident.

Dungeness crab season opens December 15

Fishery managers made the decision today to open the ocean to crabbing along the Oregon coast from the Columbia River to just north of Gold Beach (42°26'00" N. Lat.). The ocean commercial Dungeness crab season in Oregon normally opens Dec. 1, but was delayed this year because crab did not meet minimum pre-season quality testing.
The testing measures the percentage of meat in the crab, by weight.

Submitted by T. Costa on Mon, 12/12/2011 - 10:45amA Carson City Sheriff's Deputy arrested Jeffrey Christopher Haugen, 28, a Carson City resident, at around 4 p.m. in the 800 block of East Musser St. for felony burglary and felony grand larceny valued between $250 and $2,500. Bail is set at $20,000.
Deputies also responded to several other calls this weekend, resulting in several misdemeanor arrests. Among these were two drunk driving arrests and a driving under a suspended license arrest.
