Weak weather systems to bring rain and possible snow showers to Carson City
A series of weak weather systems will keep cool temperatures in place and bring periods of snow showers to the Sierra and rain with possible snow showers in Carson City through Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.
Light snow accumulation is possible down to some western Nevada valley floors Monday through Wednesday.
Forecasters say there’s “medium to high confidence” in several inches of snow in the northern Sierra with 3-8 inches possible for Donner Summit over Interstate 80, Highway 50 over Echo Summit and State Route 88 over Carson Pass. As of 2:45 Sunday afternoon there hasn't been any severe watches or warnings issued by the weather service. The weather service does say motorists should expect icy or slick road conditions associated with the weather systems.
Rain and snow will move into western Nevada and northeast California by Monday afternoon with snow levels lowering to valley floors Monday night. There’s low to medium confidence of up to two inches of accumulation in the foothills and an inch or less on valley floors.
In Carson City and Carson Valley, there’s a 40 percent chance of rain and snow showers during the day Monday with rain and snow showers likely in the evening, according to the weather service.
The rain and snow showers are expected through Wednesday with Thursday showing signs of clearing before another weather system moves in.
