Carson Middle School 7th grade basketball team win championship in undefeated season
The Carson Middle School Boys 7th grade basketball team was victorious Saturday night in the 2022 Tah-Neva Basketball Tournament at the Douglas County Community Center.
The undefeated 7th grade Solons beat Eagle Valley Middle School, Carson Valley Middle School and Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School to bring home the first place trophy. The final game score against Pau-Wa-Lu was 58 to 40.
The Carson City middle school team, which began practicing in mid-October, had their first game Nov. 1 and finished Saturday with an astounding 17-0 record.
The team roster is: Suleiman Abdelnaby, Gabe Borst, Kolbe Clapham, Paxton Good, Chance Handelin, Everett Hogan, Matthew Jadidi, Lucas Lafollette, Asher Myler, Donovan Nichols, Noah Ramirez, Trey Reddick, Xander Smith, Landon Stokes-Castro and Gabe White.
"All the boys played well. There was not one that did everything, everyone contributed," said Carson Middle School 7th Grade Coach Johnny Olivas. "Such as Trey Reddick led the team in steals and assists; Gabe Borst led the team in scoring; Noah Ramirez was our leading rebounder; Lucas Lafollette was our best defender and utility guy; Landon Stokes-Castro was the speedster. Everyone else contributed to our team goal of winning the championship."
Pulling together as a team since day one was behind this year's victory season, said Coach Olivas.
"One of the main things is we stressed team and team defense from day one and communicating with their teammates to reach our goal, and with that everyone bought in and contributed in their own special way during the season," he said.
The coach also wishes to thank Carson Middle School staff for handling the logistics throughout the season.
