PBS Reno President and CEO to Speak to Carson City Rotarians
PBS Reno President and CEO Kurt Mische will be the guest speaker at the next Rotary Club of Carson City meeting. The public is invited to attend the event which takes place on Tuesday, December 5, at noon in the Brewery Arts Center’s Grand Ballroom.
PBS Reno is marking its 40th anniversary this year. Mische will give insight into how the station operates as a modern media company that adapts to the current landscape without abandoning its past. He will also talk about the station’s role in the community. “Public television stations are often the last locally owned, locally responsive media outlets in a given market,” Mische explains. “That allows us to respond to local needs without having to get approval from a corporate office. We focus on life-long learning and provide services on and off the air that no one else does.”
PBS Reno is funded by donations from individuals, businesses and foundations across Northern Nevada. Mische adds that the organization is more than just a television station. “We actually have 3 over the air broadcast channels, we are on the social platforms and we have a phenomenal off-air education program that provides in-school literacy and STEM workshops to schools in our region.”
