NHP trooper not injured in officer involved shooting in Washoe Valley near Chocolate Factory
Law enforcement agencies including the Carson City Sheriff's Office were called to an officer involved shooting Wednesday afternoon involving a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper north of the Old 395 Exit in the parking lot of the Chocolate Factory.
According to NHP spokesman Charles Caster, the incident involved a trooper and another subject who fled on foot following an incident and possible hit and run. The suspect was shot by the NHP trooper. The trooper was not injured.
The person was transported via ground ambulance to Renown Medical Center in Reno and is in stable condition, according to KOLO.
A Honda sedan is believed to be the suspect's vehicle involved. NHP Trooper Charles Caster told KRNV News 4 that the incident started at around 2:15 p.m. at the southern end of Eastlake Boulevard when troopers attempted to stop the suspect, but the driver exited the highway and continued northbound onto US-395A.
The Honda sedan, which was found in the parking lot of The Chocolate Factory, had extensive damage to the front end. According to dispatch via scanner, the suspect took off running and was stopped by the NHP trooper. Caster confirmed that the suspect was shot.
Traffic in the area has been shut down due to the situation. We will update as more information becomes available.
