Lyon County sheriff's deputies arrest man allegedly connected to vehicle burglaries
The Lyon County Sheriff's Office arrested a man Sunday for alleged vehicle burglaries and other offenses in the Fernley area.
Ashton Spohn, 29, of Reno was taken into custody following an investigation and a brief foot pursuit after he escaped deputies who attempted to take him into custody.
According to the sheriff's office, at around 7:30 a.m., the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office received several reports of vehicle burglaries in the 1800 block of Fort Sutter Boulevard in Fernley and 1600 block of Round Up Road.
Deputies responded to the area and started several investigations into the burglaries. Information was received during this time, and a video of the suspect was obtained from several witnesses, the sheriff's office said in a news release.
On a neighborhood Ring application, deputies observed a video of a male subject wearing a red hat, black hooded sweatshirt, and white pants entering several vehicles in the neighborhood.
A witness stated they observed the same subject enter a black SUV and drive away. During this, deputies obtained a license plate and the address of where the vehicle was possibly located. Deputies responded to the 1600 block of Round Up Road and located the vehicle parked in front of a residence, the release states.
While at the residence, deputies observed several items reported missing from the burglaries. At this time, deputies contacted Ashton Spohn, who was still wearing the same clothing that deputies observed on the video during the burglaries, according to the sheriff's office.
Deputies attempted to take the suspect into custody, and he pulled away from the first deputy, pushed through a second deputy, and ran out the door, and a foot pursuit ensued.
After setting up a perimeter, the suspect was found hiding in a storage shed in a playground at a daycare center 1000 block of Inglewood and taken into custody.
Spohn was booked on the following alleged crimes:
— 2 counts vehicle burglary.
— Obstructing.
— Probation Violation.
— Ex-Felon in Possession of a Firearm NRS 200.481.2D Battery on a Police Officer.
Total Bail: $ 73,500.
