Women veterans highlighted in exhibit opening Wednesday at Carson City museum
“Through Our Eyes: The Women Veterans Experience,” opens Nov. 10 at the Nevada State Museum, Carson City. The exhibit, featuring portraits and stories of 16 veterans, will be on display through December in the museum’s concourse.
“Through Our Eyes” debuted in 2018 as part of the Reno is Artown festival; it’s a collaboration with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs “My Life, My Story” program, in which VA staff and volunteers conduct interviews with veteran patients and write short narratives of their lives.
The women interviewed for the exhibit were in the VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System. Since its creation, the exhibit has been displayed at the Nevada Legislature, the National Judicial College on the University of Nevada, Reno campus and other locations around the state.
“Hosting this exhibit at the museum is an honor, and I hope our visitors have a chance to take in the stories of these American heroes,” Myron Freedman, administrator of the Nevada Division of Museums and History, said. “They represent the generations of women who have served our armed forces with grit and dedication.”
The museum is at 600 N. Carson St. in Carson City. Face coverings must be worn inside the museum by all visitors. Regular museum admission is $10 adults and free for members and children ages 17 and younger.
