Carson City museum observes 80th birthday Thursday with history lecture

The Nevada State Museum, Carson City, will mark its 80th anniversary Thursday, Oct. 28 at a lecture exploring the institution’s past. The arrival of notable collections, expansion of facilities, installation of exhibits and honors received all will be explored in the talk offered from 6:30 to 8 p.m., both in-person and online.
The museum officially turns 80 on Nevada Day, Oct. 31. Built around the historic Carson City U.S. Mint building, the museum was the vision of Judge Clark J. Guild. Since opening its doors in 1941, it has grown into one of the finest museums in the American West.
Mina Stafford, the museum’s curator of education, will deliver the lecture. Those who attend the in-person event also can view a new display, The Nevada State Museum Turns 80!, in the Our Nevada Stories exhibit.
Admission to the museum is $8, free for children ages 17 and younger, and members. Reservations are needed to attend to lecture; to make a reservation, email mstafford@nevadaculture.org or click here.
Due to concerns for public health and safety, the Nevada State Museum, Carson City will be closed to the public all day Saturday, Oct. 30.
