Two people die when plane crashes into South Lake Tahoe home
Two people died when a plane crashed into a home in South Lake Tahoe on Saturday. The identities of the victims will be released by the coroner sometime this week, according to Lt. Bryan Golmitz of the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office.
The plane left Lake Tahoe Airport and crashed shortly after takeoff, just after 5:40 p.m. No one in the home was injured in the crash. Local emergency responders from Lake Valley Fire Protection District, South Tahoe Fire and Rescue, Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District, US Forest Service and Cal Fire responded.
Preliminary reports include witnesses seeing the plane clip a tree as it crashed adjacent near the corner of Tionontati Street and Ofling Drive in South Lake Tahoe starting a small fire, which was quickly extinguished.
The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the incident to determine the cause.
