Draft master plan for Carson City unveiled, community meeting Thursday
The Carson City Planning Department has unveiled its draft master plan and will hold meetings this Thursday, August 29 and again Sept. 5 for public review.
Over the past nine months, city staff, members of the Planning Commission, and the project team have conducted extensive outreach to help inform the updated Master Plan. Now, a draft of the updated Master Plan is ready for review and comment. Comment period on this draft ends Sept. 18.

The meeting Thursday will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at Staybridge Suites, located at 972 Retail Ct in Carson City. Those who can't make the meeting can participate in a Thursday, Sept. 5 via Zoom from 5 to 7 p.m. Go here to RSVP.
Carson City planners note the success of the Master Plan update depends on receiving feedback from a "wide range of perspectives from residents in every part of Carson City."
Participants are welcome to share ideas and encourages residents to participate with friends, colleagues, neighbors and family.
In October 2023, Carson City launched the first major update of its Envision Carson City Master Plan since 2006.
The process is an opportunity for all Carson City residents, business and property owners, and other community members to help shape Carson City’s future.
The project does not include a full Master Plan rewrite, but instead a targeted approach to modernize the existing Master Plan to reflect the progress Carson City has made over the last 17 years, officials said.
Updates to the Master Plan will also acknowledge the evolution of technology and culture that have changed how the City conducts its business, officials said.
"The updated Master Plan will re-establish the vision and goals for Carson City, as well as update the policy foundation to guide where and how Carson City grows in the future," the city notes on its website.
