Carson City Sheriff's Office warns of telephone scam, real officers names used
The Carson City Sheriff’s Office has been made aware of an ongoing telephone scam. In this scam, the original caller claims to be law enforcement and uses the name of real law enforcement personnel.
The callers demand payment in exchange for not arresting the person or seeking a warrant for arrest. The callers often demand payment in the form of gift cards or asking for credit/debit card information.
The Carson City Sheriff’s Office would like to remind the community of the following information:
The Carson City Sheriff’s Office will not contact people over the phone demanding payment in lieu of arrest.
The Carson City Sheriff’s Office will not demand payment over the phone for warrants or missing jury duty.
If there is any question about the legitimacy of a phone call from a Carson City Sheriff’s Office employee, contact the Sheriff’s Office at 775-887-2500.

DO NOT provide financial information, including credit/debit card information over the phone to an unknown person.
