Carson City arrests: Man booked for allegedly passing fake $100 bills
A 29-year-old man was arrested Wednesday for felony forgery after allegedly passing fake $100 bills at two businesses, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.
Charles Rosencrantz was taken into custody following an investigation into the alleged crimes.
According to the booking report, Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies were called August 4 to an auto parts business after the suspect had paid for $43.95 of parts with a $100 bill and received $56.05 in change. The clerk noticed the bill appeared fake and noted the vehicle the suspect was driving.
A deputy was able to find the vehicle on traffic cameras going south on South Carson Street at 11:30 a.m. The footage showed the license plate number, the report states.
On Wednesday, August 7 it was reported that a man had attempted to pay for food at a north Carson Street restaurant using a fake $100 bill. The bill was declined and the employee captured the suspect's license plate and said that they were able to identify the suspect but there were no available security cameras, the report states.
At around 12:30 p.m. a deputy who had taken the initial call from the North Carson Street restaurant was able to locate the suspect vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle.
The suspect, Rosencrantz, was read his Miranda rights, which he said he understood and wished to speak with law enforcement.
He said he had attempted to pay for food at the restaurant earlier in the day with a $100 bill. He said that he had more of the bills, which he gave deputies permission to search for. Counterfeit $100 bills were located in his vehicle as well as one in his wallet. The bills had misaligned borders on the edges, making them easily to identify as fake, the report states.
A deputy asked Rosencrantz if he had paid for items at the auto parts store with counterfeit money and he said that he had done so "a few days ago" and said he had done so at around 11:30 a.m., the report states.
The man was arrested for suspicion of using the fake bills at the restaurant and admitting he used a fake $100 bill to purchase items at the auto parts store. Bail: $5,000.

A Carson City man was arrested Wednesday for suspected felony third DUI, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.
Thomas Edwards was taken into custody following an investigation. According to the report, deputies were dispatched at 6:12 p.m. to a fast food restaurant in the 3100 block of Highway 50 East regarding a hit and run.
Deputies arrived and made contact with the reporting party who stated he was in the restaurant's drive through when his vehicle was backed into by a white Jeep. The vehicle had minor damage on the front. The driver of the Jeep was identified as Edwards.
The reporting party stated he witnessed the suspect in actual physical control of the vehicle and said Thomas told them to follow him to his house and appeared to be impaired. The victim vehicle owner advised they did not want to press charges for hit and run and only wanted to inform Carson City Sheriff's Office of the incident.
Dispatch provided the suspect's address from the license plate and a deputy responded to the location and made contact with the man. The officer observed he was leaning on the white Jeep and eating fast food. The officer observed the man had red, watery eyes and could smell a slight odor of alcohol coming from the man's person. The suspect stated he had two beers approximately 30 minutes prior.
The deputy obtained the man's license, which was valid. He was asked if he would be willing to participate in field sobriety tests. The man stated he did not want to participate. The man advised he did not want to provide a preliminary breath test.
With the investigation and the officer's observations, the deputy arrested the man for suspicion of DUI alcohol. He was read the voluntary request for evidentiary testing. The man refused a voluntary breath or blood sample.
Due to the man being outside the vehicle when the officer arrived on scene, the deputy applied for a telephonic search warrant. The man was taken to the hospital where blood was drawn. Bail: $20,000.
