Carson City arrests: Man booked for suspected 3rd DUI and eluding following pursuit
A 35-year-old Minden man was arrested early Saturday for suspicion of felony third DUI and eluding while under the influence, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.
Daniel George Ogilvie was taken into custody at 2:53 a.m. following an investigation. He was also booked for misdemeanor basic speeding (31 mph over) and required head lamp illumination.
According to the booking report, at around 2:22 a.m. a deputy observed a vehicle fail to stop at a red stoplight for westbound traffic on South Stewart Street. The officer activated their overhead lights to initiate a traffic stop but the vehicle continued and didn't stop after several locations to safely pull over.
When the driver stopped in the area of West Second Street, the deputy got out of their patrol vehicle, walked to the suspect vehicle, where the driver then floored the accelerator and took off at a high rate of speed. The officer radioed dispatch for additional units, the report states.
The vehicle continued, turning at various streets going 60 mph in 25 mph zones. The deputy observed the vehicle had all of its running lights (headlights and brake lights) turned off in an attempt not to be seen. The vehicle continued along South Carson Street, where the officer lost visual near a casino parking lot.
Dispatch advised the vehicle came back registered to Ogilvie who lives in Minden. The officer advised other units to check the Walmart parking lot off of Topsy Lane. Deputies learned from a Douglas County deputy that the suspect worked at the Walmart off Topsy, the report states.
Deputies located the suspect vehicle and located the suspect, who advised he had been working the whole time. He told deputies he didn't have keys to the truck and was waiting for a ride to pick him up. He denied drinking but stated he had smoked some weed earlier in the shift, the report states.
A deputy observed the man had red eyes and slurred speech. He was arrested for suspicion of DUI. Deputies also learned he also had two prior convictions of DUI within the past seven years.
He mentioned to the officer that he "ditched" him and also stated that his mother recently died and he drank a little due to having a hard time processing her recent death. A blood draw was taken. Bail: $25,466.
