Fire Chief: Brunswick Canyon fire grows to at least 30 acres

A brush fire burning tonight at Brunswick Canyon is between 30 to 40 acres and is growing but no structures are threatened, said Carson City Fire Chief Stacey Giomi.
The fire is located past the Old Mill in the canyon area and on the south side of the Carson River, Giomi said. The area is steep and dense with cheat grass with some pinyon and juniper, he added.
Traffic is being halted at Highway 50 and Flint Drive and at Deer Run Road as fire crews continue to fight the fire. Multiple fire agencies have responded including Carson City and BLM hand crew teams. More firefighters are being called in, Giomi said. The call came in at 9:52 p.m. tonight.
A command post for fire crews has been established near the rifle range.
A number vehicles were seen in the area at the time of the fire.
Carson City Sheriff's officers are investigating whether fireworks may have touched off the blaze.
More details will be made as they become available.
