Preliminary hearing for suspected killer of 18-year-old Naomi Irion postponed until September
The preliminary hearing surrounding the kidnapping and murder of 18-year-old Fernley resident Naomi Irion has been postponed.
The preliminary hearing of her accused killer, Troy Driver, will be Sept. 13 at 9 a.m. at Fernley Justice Court.
Driver briefly appeared on screen Tuesday from the jail via Zoom, and did not attend the hearing in person.
On June 29, Driver’s defense filed a motion to dismiss the case, claiming that because there is no evidence showing a plot to murder Irion when she was kidnapped in Fernley, the proper venue for a murder charge would be in Churchill County, in which her body was later found.
So far, Driver has appeared in Canal Township Justice Court within Fernley since his arrest in March.
Irion was kidnapped in the early morning of March 12 from the Walmart parking lot in Fernley. Sometime in between March 12 and March 25, her body was buried in an area off of Coal Canyon Road in northern Churchill County after being fatally wounded by gunshot.
During the Sept. 13 court date, the motion to dismiss will be heard along with the preliminary hearing, according to Judge Lori Matheus, who has presided at each of Driver’s hearings.
