Carson City firefighters aim for full containment Sunday on Prison Hill Fire; crews tackle other fires in region
UPDATE 12:22PM: The U.S. Forest Service reports the East Fork Fire, burning in Alpine County 15 miles south of Gardnerville has consumed around 1,000 acres and is 15 percent contained.

Carson City Fire Department crews working the Prison Hill Fire will spend Sunday reinforcing control lines and extinguishing any hot spots. The fire remains at 171 acres burned and 90 percent contained. The goal is 100 containment Sunday, according to CCFD.
Meanwhile, firefighters continue to battle the East Fork Fire burning 15 miles south of Gardnerville and east of Woodfords in the Carson Ranger District in Alpine County, Calif.
As of Saturday evening, the fire, which started by lightning on July 1, had grown to 750 acres and was 10 percent contained. Approximately 250 firefighters are assigned to the fire, as well as 10 helicopters, and 1 air attack, multiple engines and hand crews, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
The fire is burning in the steep rugged terrain of Cottonwood Canyon near Horseshoe Bend on the East Fork of the Carson River. Firefighters are expected to be on scene through the weekend. The Forest Service advises to stay out of the area of Horseshoe Bend on the East Fork of the Carson River, where firefighters are working.
Airport Road off of Highway 89 in Alpine County is closed between the junction of Highway 89 and Diamond Valley Road. Access to Indian Creek Reservoir is closed until further notice. Do not launch any rafts or watercraft in the East Fork of the Carson River from Markleeville. There is fire on both sides of the river.
In other nearby fires, the Brunswick Fire burning in the Pine Nut Mountains remains at 37 acres as of Sunday morning, according to Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center.
Elsewhere, the Pan Fire, which started Saturday and is burning on the Bridgeport Ranger District two miles southeast of Wheeler Peak is around 45 acres, according to Sierra Front. Containment is unknown at this time.
