Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies made arrests Sunday on Highway 50 West near Spooner Junction for multiple felony charges including drug trafficking and warrants for robbery and extortion.
Arrested were Damien Malone Munoz, 21, Anthony Gabriel Munoz, 22 and Talina Hicks, 18, all from Carson City. Highway 50 westbound was closed briefly because of the incident.
Damien Munoz was arrested for felony warrants alleging two counts robbery and one count extortion. He was also arrested for possession of a controlled substance, trafficking a Schedule 1 drug 4 to 14 grams, and misdemeanor obstruction and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Anthony Gabriel Munoz was arrested on the felony warrants alleging two counts robbery and one count extortion. He was also arrested for misdemeanor being in possession of a firearm while intoxicated. Talina Hicks was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and being under age consuming alcohol.
According to the arrest report, deputies were called at 5:23 p.m. to the area of Highway 50 West near Spooner Junction in reference to a male subject running with a rifle in the westbound travel lane, approximately 1.5 miles west of South Carson Street.
While en route, Carson City dispatch advised there was an additional male and female subject on scene who appeared to be with the male subject in the roadway. Upon arrival deputies observed a male subject (Anthony Munoz) with a long rifle in his hands walking. The two deputies held the man at gun point and instructed him to drop his rifle in which he complied. At this time, the man was told he was being detained.
While deputies were dealing with Anthony Munoz, a male subject, later identified as Damien Munoz, began yelling at officers from the opposite side of the roadway in the eastbound traffic lane. A deputy instructed Munoz to come over and speak. The man refused. After additional attempts to get Damien Munoz to cooperate with instructions, he again refused and got into the driver side seat of a sedan and proceeded eastbound on Highway 50, the arrest report states.
Damien Munoz was later stopped by Douglas County Sheriff's Office deputies and the Nevada Highway Patrol approximately 1 mile east of the original location.
Deputies responded to the location and made contact with DCSO and NHP who were out with Damien Munoz and three female subjects, the arrest report states.
Deputies made contact with Damien who was detained. He was read his Miranda warning and was asked if he wanted to speak about the incident regarding Anthony Munoz and the rifle. Damien Munoz stated he did not wish to speak. A check was made through Carson City dispatch that returned with confirmed felony warrants. He was arrested.
Deputies made contact with two of the female subjects, one identified as Talina Hicks, who was intoxicated and was treated by the fire department because she is pregnant, the arrest report states. Deputies located a clear plastic baggie with suspected methamphetamine on the ground next to her.
Deputies were advised by one of the females, who was read her Miranda warning and agreed to speak, that Damien and Anthony were brothers and that she did not know what was going on other than they were arguing, the arrest report states. It was learned the suspected methamphetamine belonged to Damien Munoz and that Talina said she would "hold it down" when they got pulled over, the report states.
Deputies then read Talina Hicks her Miranda warning and she agreed to speak. She admitted the baggie on the ground was hers. Deputies could smell an odor of alcohol on her breath as she spoke. She was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and consuming alcohol under age.
Damien Munoz was booked into jail. Without prompting he told a deputy that the methamphetamine that Talina Hicks said was hers, belonged to him. Meanwhile, deputies were advised that Anthony Munoz was intoxicated and in possession of a .22 rifle, and that he had a confirmed felony warrant out of Carson City Justice Court alleging robbery and extortion.
While at the detention facility, Anthony Munoz provided a preliminary breath test of .217. He was booked for the felony robbery and extortion warrants, and misdemeanor possession of a firearm while intoxicated, the arrest report states.
After being processed, a deputy advised she located an additional 9.2 grams of methamphetamine inside a black backpack while conducting an inventory search prior to the vehicle being towed. The deputy advised she also located paraphernalia in the center console.
According to the arrest report, Damien Munoz told deputies that the backpack and contents of the backpack belonged to him. He was booked for the robbery and extortion felony warrants, possession of a controlled substance, trafficking a controlled substance 4-14 grams and the other charges.
