Carson City deputies arrests two for possessing more than 11 pounds of fentanyl
On Friday, June 28, the Carson City Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Team conducted a traffic stop that yielded more than 11 pounds of fentanyl.
At approximately 11:30 a.m., Carson City Sheriff's Office SET detectives conducted a traffic stop on a Kia sedan bearing California plates on Fairview Drive near I-580 for a traffic violation.
The driver, Brandy Martinez, appeared very nervous and was visibly shaking while detectives spoke with her. The passenger, Emily Rochin, answered simple questions inconsistent with the driver and showed deceptive behavior. Both Emily and Brandy admitted that there were narcotics inside the vehicle.
K9 Cash was used during the traffic stop and he provided a positive alert to the car indicating the presence of narcotics.
A search was conducted on the vehicle and CCSO detectives located 11.7 pounds of fentanyl. The narcotics consisted of a combination of fentanyl pills along with powder fentanyl. The fentanyl was packaged in such a way that was consistent with someone trying to smuggle drugs on their body.
The suspects were both booked into Carson City Jail for the following charges:
Possession of a controlled substance (fentanyl)
Trafficking a controlled substance 400 + grams (fentanyl)
Conspiracy to violate the controlled substance act.
