Carson City Sheriff: Bicyclist dies of possible head injury on C-Hill

An adult male bicycle rider died Sunday morning of a possible head injury following a collision on C-Hill, according to Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

The unidentified California man apparently struck a metal chain that crosses a pathway on the West Carson City trail. He was not wearing protective head gear, said Furlong. An autopsy will determine the exact cause of death.

Sheriff Furlong noted these kinds of off-road accidents often happen in early summer when riders, sometimes, over-extend their confidence levels.

"Wearing protective gear is extremely important. Accidents do happen. Even a moderate fall in the backcountry can be deadly," said Furlong.
