For Monday night, NWS forecasters say increased west to southwest winds ahead of a strong, mostly dry cold front brings widespread wind gusts of 35 to 45 mph across much of the region. Localized gusts up to 55 mph will result in areas of blowing dust, aviation turbulence, and impacts to travel and recreation, including hazardous lake conditions.
Because of the windy conditions, forecasters advise to ensure all outdoor decor and furniture is secure. Also it is a good idea to check with NDOT at nvroads.com for any high-profile vehicle restrictions.
NWS forecasters advise residents to protect sensitive vegetation from the chilly overnight temperatures and dress in layers if recreating in the Sierra.
Mild weather returns midweek with the next dose of showers and isolated thunderstorms possible to end the work week, forecasters said.
