Condominium fire leads to arrest of woman on felony drug charge

Carson City authorities investigating a possible arson at a condominium this morning arrested the woman who lived at the residence on a felony drug charge. Ginnie Heidt, was arrested at 4:45 a.m. Tuesday in the 200 block of Allouette Way.

According to the arrest report, officers investigating the fire insider Heidt's condominium made contact with her where she told authorities she was not aware of a fire at her residence but that she was informed earlier in the morning from a friend of hers that something bad happened there but that he provided no information.

Carson City Fire Chief Stacey Giomi reports the fire happened at about 1 a.m. and involved the garage, kitchen and downstairs portion of the residence. No injuries were reported and firefighters were able to rescue a dog, Giomi said.

A Carson City Fire Department investigator, Heidt and an Carson City Sheriff's deputy asked the woman if she wanted to walk through the residence to see the damage. She advised she would and there was a walkthrough.

As the woman walked through the living area and kitchen she told authorities she didn't want to see anymore of the residence and then grabbed a brown prescription bottle off the counter and tried to conceal the bottle in her hand, according to the arrest report.

The Carson City Sheriff's deputy confronted Heidt as she attempted to quickly place the bottle in her left coat pocket. As the officer grabbed her hand, the woman pulled away. Her hands were placed behind her back and the officer was able to see that the prescription bottle had no label on it.

The officer looked at the bottle and could see a plastic bag inside it with several pills inside. The officer asked what she was doing and the woman stated she was getting her medicine. She further stated the pills were Dilaudid, which she stated she had a prescription for but was unable to provide it. The woman was placed under arrested and read her Miranda rights.

The woman would not provide information regarding the fire but stated that she received the Dilaudid pills months ago from an emergency room for hip and neck pain. She later told police that she received the medication from a pharmacist in Tahoe and put the pills in the plastic baggy because she doesn't like carrying around the bottle. Heidt had a total of 16 Dilaudid pills, a schedule II opioid pain killer.

The fire is under investigation.
